Ten Image Publishing and OnTheHouse Studios today announced the immediate release of Huntsman, a nightmarish, first-person horror game centered on unchecked genetic experimentation and the ultimate arachnophobe’s nightmare.
The Web of Corporate Hubris
Huntsman plunges players into the desolate research facility of Atherton Labs, a world-leading bioengineering company that spent years secretly and illegally experimenting with spider DNA. Using unregulated gene-editing technology, the corporation successfully created gigantic spiders for pharmaceutical, military, and industrial exploitation. However, corporate hubris—and shareholder expectations—have led to the inevitable: a catastrophic mass escape.
You step into the shoes of the facility’s newest security guard on your very first shift, immediately finding yourself drawn into a tangled web of deadly predators, complex puzzles, and chilling corporate intrigue.
Survival Features: Improvise or Die
The survival mechanics emphasize resource management and pure evasion. To survive the swarm, players must master the art of stealth and distraction:
-
Diverse Predators: Face off against a terrifying ecosystem of engineered arachnids, including Huntsman, orb weaver, trapdoor, and tarantula species. Each possesses distinct behaviors and hunting styles inspired by real-life counterparts, demanding unique strategies.
-
Descend into the Web: Explore a facility plunged into darkness and overrun by invaders. Players must divert limited power between sections of the building to access new areas and gather the vital resources needed to outmaneuver the swarm.
-
The Power of Evasion: Utilize your flashlight, strategically timed throwables, and the environment itself to distract, mislead, and evade creatures you are fundamentally unable to fight head-on. Just one wrong move means you transition from guard to prey.
-
Primal Terror: The game is engineered to trigger deep arachnophobia. Every spider moves, hunts, and reacts with terrifying realism, designed to engage primal instincts your mind won’t be able to ignore.
From Phobia to Feature
Chris White, founder of Ten Image Publishing, championed the game’s unique emotional impact: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to begin the label’s journey with a game that has been described by one of our fans as ‘A sadistic type of exposure therapy.’ We are confident this is the most exciting story about a secret research project gone awry that gamers will experience this year.”
Developer Jory House spoke to the highly personal nature of the horror: “It’s been a long and challenging road to get here, but now that Huntsman is loose, I can finally share my nightmare with the gaming world. What started as a phobia has turned into the start of a new career for me, with my first commercial release now out in the wild. I can’t wait to hear what you all think.”
