“Stranger Things“ fans are excited to see the series return, but they are about to be a lot happier. Netflix just dropped the first look at “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.” It’s an animated adventure that brings Hawkins, Indiana, to life like never before.
A Bigger Universe
This marks the first official spinoff in the “Stranger Things” universe. It is a bold new way to explore the show’s mythology. While plot details are still under wraps, the series promises the same eerie nostalgia and heart fans have come to love, this time through the lens of animation.
The new spinoff will stream exclusively on Netflix. And joining the platform’s growing lineup of “Stranger Things projects, including the fifth and final season of the flagship series, whose first episodes have already premiered.
The show hails from creator and showrunner Eric Robles, with Matt and Ross Duffer, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Hilary Leavitt serving as executive producers through Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps. Animation is being handled by Flying Bark Productions, the team behind What If…? and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
“When we started talking about if there was anything else we wanted to do with Stranger Things, this was one of our first ideas,” Ross Duffer said in the teaser. “With animation, there’s really no limits.”
The Vision
The decision to move into animation was a deliberate choice by the franchise’s architects, the Duffer Brothers. Ross Duffer explains, “When we started talking about if there was anything else we wanted to do with Stranger Things, this was one of our first ideas. With animation, there’s really no limit.”
Matt Duffer added, “The idea was kind of to evoke a feeling of an ’80s cartoon.” This vision promises to infuse the eerie tension and heart of Stranger Things with the vibrant, imaginative visual style of the decade’s classic animated shows.
Definitive plot details remain closely guarded. The series is expected to deliver the same signature blend of unnerving nostalgia that fans have come to love.
“Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” is set to be a key component in the expanding universe while proving that the thrilling stories emerging from Hawkins, Indiana, are far from over.
