Get ready to question everything happening next door! The series reboot of the 1989 cult classic, The ‘Burbs, is heading exclusively to Peacock, and leading the charge is Keke Palmer!
This isn’t just a simple revisit. This is a modern, eight-episode mystery-comedy series ready to shatter the illusion of suburban tranquility.
The Plot: Old Secrets, New Deadly Neighbors
Inspired by the original horror-comedy film directed by Joe Dante (starring Tom Hanks), the new series is set in present-day suburbia.
We follow Samira (Keke Palmer), a young wife who finds herself transplanted into her husband Rob’s childhood home. The illusion of a quiet, perfect life quickly shatters when a new neighbor moves in across the street. This arrival isn’t just awkward—it immediately starts pulling old, buried secrets of the cul-de-sac to the surface. It brings deadly new threats right to their doorstep.
Samira, naturally, can’t help but get mesmerized entirely by an empty, dilapidated house across the street—a house that seems to hold the key to a decades-old mystery. She quickly embarks on an amateur, yet determined, sleuthing mission to uncover the truth, fueled by pure suburban curiosity.
An All-Star Cast of Comedic and Horror Talent!
This series is packed with incredible talent, ready to deliver both laughs and genuine tension. Leading the ensemble is Keke Palmer (Nope) as our curious heroine, Samira.
The cast also includes Jack Whitehall (Fresh Meat) as her husband, Rob. Julia Duffy (“Newhart”) as Lynn. Paula Pell (“SNL”), Mark Proksch (“The Office”), and Kapil Talwalkar (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) as Naveen. Plus, there are Justin Kirk (“Weeds”) and Kyrie McAlpin (“Will Trent”).
Get Your First Sneak Peek!
Peacock dropped the official teaser trailer, and it confirms everything we hoped for: high tension and great chemistry. The teaser shows Palmer’s Samira getting hooked on the mystery of the abandoned house, kickstarting an amateur detective adventure alongside Rob and their neighbors. When Samira learns that someone may have died inside the house two decades ago, her mission shifts from simple curiosity to a desperate hunt for the secrets lurking within those walls.
