Hey horror fans! We’ve got some huge news about the Paranormal Activity franchise! Remember how we reported last week about a new installment gearing up at Paramount and Blumhouse? Well, things are moving fast! We already knew that horror master James Wan (of The Conjuring fame), Jason Blum, and original creator Oren Peli were teaming up to produce.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that rising Canadian writer-director Ian Tuason will direct the eighth movie in the found-footage series!

Who is Ian Tuason?

The guy is seriously talented. The Toronto-based writer-director first made waves with live-action VR horror shorts that racked up millions of views on YouTube and even got showcased at SXSW.

He made an even bigger splash this past summer when his feature film, Undertone, premiered at the 29th Fantasia International Film Festival and won the audience award for the best Canadian film! It must be good, because A24 recently snatched up Undertone for release.

Speaking of Undertone, here’s the lowdown:

“Paranormal podcast host Evy moves into her dying mother’s house to be her primary caregiver. When she receives audio recordings of a young pregnant couple experiencing supernatural noises, she realizes the woman’s story mirrors her own. Each new recording scratches at her sanity, drawing her into a fate she cannot escape.”

It sounds like Tuason has plenty of experience with the kind of spooky, slow-burn atmosphere Paranormal Activity is famous for!

James Wan is Pumped!

James Wan sounded super excited about getting involved last week, telling THR:

“I’ve been a huge admirer of Paranormal Activity since the brilliant first movie, with its creeping slow burn and subtle ability to make the unseen terrifying. I’m looking forward to expanding on its legacy and helping shape the next evolution of this scary found-footage franchise.”

Stay tuned. As more details surface, we’ll keep you posted.
