Get ready to keep the lights on—the first teaser for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy just dropped, and it’s a far cry from the action-adventure romps of the past. The trailer might leave you with nightmares. Cronin is trading Deadites for desert sands in a reimagining that looks absolutely terrifying.

A Reunion from Hell

Forget tomb raiding and ancient curses unleashed by explorers. This story hits much closer to home. A journalist’s young daughter, Katie, vanishes into the desert without a trace. Eight years later, just as the family has reached their breaking point, she suddenly reappears. But the “joyful” reunion is short-lived; the girl who returned isn’t precisely the daughter they lost.

“Poltergeist meets Seven.”

Cronin isn’t playing it safe with the tone. In an interview with IGN, he described the movie as an “insane mashup,” blending the domestic dread of Poltergeist with the dark, gritty investigative mystery of Seven.

When I talk about Poltergeist, what I mean is the domestic circumstances and the warmth of the family. And when I talk about Seven, what I mean is the dark, investigative angle and the secrets that exist behind it.” — Lee Cronin

A Genre-Defining Cast & Crew

Before you start wondering, no, this movie does not star Brendan Fraser. A second mummy movie will be coming out, featuring his return to the franchise.

This film features a heavy-hitting cast of horror and drama favorites, including Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Laia Costa (The Wheel of Time), May Calamawy (Moon Knight), Natalie Grace (1923),  and Veronica Falcón (Ozark).

The project is from the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner, with horror maestros James Wan and Jason Blum producing alongside Cronin.

Get ready to unwrap pure terror. Warner Bros. will unleash The Mummy on April 17, 2026, and the first footage is already crawling under everyone’s skin.
