Prime Video is on an absolute tear right now! Hot on the heels of the news that Ryan Hurst is playing Kratos in God of War, they’ve just dropped a first-look photo for the live-action “Tomb Raider” series—and yes, Sophie Turner is officially our new Lara Croft.
The series is officially in production as of today, January 15, 2026! It’s been a long road since the project was first greenlit in May 2024, but seeing Turner in the iconic tank top and holster makes it feel genuine. She’s following in the massive footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, but this time, the world of the “posh crypt-ransacker” is getting a prestige TV makeover.
A Cast Beyond Our “Wildest Dreams”
Showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) isn’t just writing the scripts; she’s assembled a staggering lineup of talent.
Sci-fi queen Sigourney Weaver joins as Evelyn Wallis (a mysterious woman looking to exploit Lara’s skills), and Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) as Lara’s uncle, Atlas DeMornay. Martin Bobb-Semple plays tech-wiz Zip, and Bill Paterson takes on the role of the legendary Croft butler, Winston. The cast also features Celia Imrie, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, and Jack Bannon.
Double the Lara, Double the Fun
If a new TV show wasn’t enough, 2026 is officially the “Year of the Raider.” Along with the series, we’re getting two major game releases:
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (2026): A modern reimagining of the original 1996 classic that started it all.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst (2027): A brand-new sequel that kicks off a fresh chapter in the saga.
Busy Year for Turner
Sophie Turner isn’t just busy raiding tombs. She’s also starring in the upcoming gothic horror film The Dreadful, where she’ll be reuniting with her Game of Thrones brother/cousin Kit Harington.
Between Kratos, Lara Croft, and a Stark reunion, Prime Video is basically becoming the home for every fandom we care about.
