Just when you thought it was safe to put away the holy water, Warner Bros. has confirmed that The Conjuring Universe is far from dead. Despite 2025’s The Conjuring: Last Rites being marketed as the grand finale of the main story, the studio isn’t ready to walk away from a franchise that has pulled in a massive $2.7 billion across nine films.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new chapter titled The Conjuring: First Communion is officially on the way, slated to hit theaters in 2027.
Why More?
Money talks. Last Rites was a massive success, proving that fans still have a huge appetite for the Warrens’ supernatural cases. The film brought in $494.7 million on a $55 milion budget, needless to say, who could turn down another payday like that?
What We Know So Far
While plot details and casting are still under wraps, the creative team is already taking shape. Rodrigue Huart (Suffer Little Children) is in the director’s chair for The Conjuring: First Communion.
Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg penned the script. The two previously teamed up for the fucking fantastic horror film The Autopsy of Jane Doe, which happens to be one of my favorite horror films ever! If you haven’t seen it, stop what you’re doing, turn out the lights, and watch it on Prime, Hulu, or Tubi.
A while back, it was stated that we were getting a prequel to the Warren’s story. However, it has not been officially confirmed that this is indeed that movie. Hopefully, more details will surface soon.
The Future of the Franchise
The expansion doesn’t stop with the big screen. Just days after Last Rites crushed the box office in September 2025, an HBO original series was announced. Nancy Won (Jessica Jones) is onboard as showrunner. This signals that the universe is moving into a new era of storytelling. But don’t worry, there will be more tales from the franchise to come to the big screen.
The Conjuring: First Communion will hit theaters in September 2027. Are you ready for more?
