If you’re a slasher purist, you know that 1981 was a golden year for the genre and you’ll remeber Joseph Zito’s The Prowler (also known as Rosemary’s Killer). This year marks the film’s 45th Anniversary, and On Set Cinema is going all out to celebrate.
On Saturday, March 21, 2026, horror fans are descending upon the historic Inn of Cape May in New Jersey for a screening that is literally to die for.
The Ultimate Immersive Slasher Experience
This isn’t just a movie in a theater; it’s a homecoming. Built in 1894, the Inn of Cape May served as the primary filming location for the movie’s iconic graduation dances and dorm interiors.
On Set Cinema is transforming the Inn to look exactly like the film’s 1945/1981 setting. We’re talking balloons and party streamers everywhere. There will be punch and cake served to “guests” (just watch your back). And there will be photo ops on the infamous staircase where the killer once lurked.
Why The Prowler Still Scares Us
For those who need a refresher, The Prowler is legendary for two reasons: its suffocating atmosphere and the mind-blowing practical effects by the “Godfather of Gore,” Tom Savini.
The story begins in 1945, when a returning WWII veteran murders his ex-girlfriend and her new lover at a graduation dance with a pitchfork. Fast forward 35 years to 1980: the town is finally holding its first graduation dance since the tragedy. Naturally, a killer in full combat gear—complete with a bayonet and pitchfork—shows up to make sure no one makes it to the after-party.
The film features solid performances from Vicky Dawson as our resilient final girl, Pam, and Christopher Goutman as Deputy Mark London. Keep an eye out for veteran actor Lawrence Tierney in a memorable role as the town’s weary sheriff.

The event takes place in Cape May, New Jersey, a town famous for its stunning Victorian architecture and eerie, historic charm. It is the perfect backdrop for a classic horror tale.
Want to make a weekend of it? On Set Cinema ticket holders get a massive discount on a 2-night stay at the Inn (Friday, March 20 & Saturday, March 21). You can literally sleep in the same building where the “Avalon Bay” massacre was caught on film.
