If you thought your family dinners were awkward, wait until you get a load of HEEL. Magnolia Pictures has just dropped the trailer for this wild thriller from Academy Award-nominated director Jan Komasa (Corpus Christi). And it looks like a relentless exercise in psychological tension.
From Predator to Prey
The story centers on Tommy (Anson Boon), a 19-year-old hooligan who lives for the thrill of the “bad life”—drugs, late-night parties, and casual violence are just part of his routine. But during one particularly reckless bender with his friends, Tommy’s luck runs out. Separated from the pack, a mysterious figure abducts him and disappears into the night.
When he wakes up, the hunter has become the hunted. Tommy finds himself chained in the basement of an isolated suburban home. But his captors aren’t your typical movie monsters; they’re a seemingly normal family. Chris (Stephen Graham) and his wife Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough) have decided that Tommy is their new project.
Along with their young son Jonathan, the family is determined to “reform” Tommy. This isn’t just physical captivity—it’s a brutal series of mind games designed to break his spirit and force him into their twisted version of domestic perfection. Tommy is forced to play along with their “family values” or risk losing his mind entirely.
A Powerhouse Cast and Creative Team
Director Jan Komasa has assembled a heavy-hitting cast to bring this dark script (written by Bartek Bartosik and Naqqash Khalid) to life. Golden Globe winner Stephen Graham stars as Chris, the dad, with Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough cast as the mom. Anson Boon plays poor Tommy.
The film also features Kit Rakusen, Austin Haynes, Callum Booth-Ford (Peaky Blinders), and Savannah Steyn (House of the Dragon).
Add It to Your Watchlist
This is a “home invasion” story flipped on its head. Instead of the family being the victims, they are the aggressors, using the mask of suburban morality to justify their cruelty. With Jan Komasa at the helm, we can expect the film to be visually striking and deeply unsettling, exploring the thin line between rehabilitation and torture.
Produced by veterans like Jeremy Thomas, Jerzy Skolimowski, and Ewa Piaskowska, HEEL is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about thrillers of 2026. It’s a good thing we don’t have to wait long. HEEL hits theaters and On Demand on March 6, 2026.
