Turn on the Lights: Eli Roth’s ‘Dream Eater’ Is Coming to Blu-ray
If you’re a fan of movies that make you check under the bed (and then sleep with a nightlight), get ready. One of the most genuinely unsettling horror films of 2025, Dream Eater, is officially prepping its landing on Blu-ray.
Produced under Eli Roth’s new label, The Horror Section, this found-footage nightmare has already been crushing it on digital platforms after a buzzy theatrical run. Now, physical media collectors can finally get their hands on the Collector’s Edition this spring.
When Sleep Becomes a Weapon
Dream Eater follows Mallory (Mallory Drumm), a professional documentarian, and her boyfriend Alex (Alex Lee Williams) as they head to a remote cabin deep in the snowy Laurentian Mountains.
The trip isn’t just for a holiday; Mallory is there to film Alex’s deteriorating and increasingly violent parasomnia (sleepwalking). But as Alex’s nighttime episodes grow more grotesque, the “medical study” takes a sharp turn into the occult. Mallory begins to uncover a decades-old mystery tied to Alex’s childhood trauma and a local cult. What started as a sleep disorder quickly evolves into a struggle against an ancient evil that feeds on the very fabric of their reality.
Why Eli Roth Is Terrified
It takes a lot to scare the man who gave us Hostel and Cabin Fever, but Eli Roth hasn’t stopped raving about this one. He’s gone on record comparing the experience of watching Dream Eater to the first time he saw genre-defining hits like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity.
“I remember watching Dream Eater alone in my house and having to turn on the lights because it was that scary,” Roth admitted. “It has been so long since I have been truly terrified by a film to such a degree that I had almost forgotten what it felt like. These filmmakers achieved the holy grail of horror.”
The “DIY” Dream Team
The film is an actual labor of love from the Canadian trio at Blind Luck Pictures: Jay Drakulic, Mallory Drumm, and Alex Lee Williams. Not only did they co-write and co-direct the film, but Williams and Drumm put themselves in front of the camera to capture that raw, documentary-style realism that makes the scares feel way too real. If you want to know more about the film and the filmmakers, I recommend watching our interview with them. It was both fascinating and fun.
