Listen up, A24 is about to mess with your head—and your ears. They’ve teamed up with Dolby to bring the viral horror sensation Undertone to theaters this March.

 A Podcast from Hell

Written and directed by breakout filmmaker Ian Tuason, the movie follows a popular paranormal podcast host (played by The Handmaid’s Tale’s Nina Kiri) who moves back home to care for her dying mother.

The horror starts when she receives 10 mysterious audio recordings from a young, pregnant couple. As she listens to their terrified accounts of noises in their house, she realizes their lives are mirroring hers in ways that are way too specific to be a coincidence. It’s a “found-audio” nightmare that explores grief, family, and the things that go bump in the night.

Why You Need to See (and Hear) it in Dolby

Because Undertone relies so heavily on sound, A24 and Dolby are promoting Dolby Cinemas as the ultimate way to watch.

Why is Dolby important for the best experience? You’ll hear every floorboard creak and ghostly whisper as if it’s moving around the theater. That’s not all, Dolby Vision ensures the darkness will be pitch-black with perfect clarity, making those “blink-and-you ’ll-miss-it” scares even more intense.

The Hype is Real

This movie has had quite a journey before landing at A24. It sold out its world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, which is massive. Then, A24 fought off other studios to snag the rights. Just watch the trailer below for a taste of the terror. Pro tip: Put on your headphones for a more intense experience.

Meet the Team

Director Ian Tuason makes his feature debut with Undertone, starring Michèle Duquet (The Virgin Suicides) and Kris Holden-Ried (The Umbrella Academy). Producers Dan Slater and Cody Calahan lend their experience to the production.

There’s more good news: Dolby theaters will host early screenings beginning March 9, ahead of its March 13 wide release. Get your tickets now!
