If you’ve spent the last decade shouting at your TV for the people on screen to “just leave the house,” it’s time to see if you can do any better. DreadXP has officially announced that Paranormal Activity: Threshold is bringing its first playable demo to PAX East 2026 in Boston, running from March 26 to 29.
However, this isn’t just another jump-scare simulator. It’s a partnership with Paramount Pictures that marks the first time fans can step directly into the boots (and the grainy camera lenses) of the iconic found-footage franchise.
The Setup: Home Renovation or Portal to Hell?
The game follows Daniel and Jessica Stewart. They are a couple who make the classic horror movie mistake of documenting their “dream home” renovations. What starts as a routine DIY project quickly spirals into a structural nightmare as they uncover strange markings and hidden objects tucked behind the drywall.
As their digital recordings pile up, the Stewarts realize they aren’t just dealing with a termite problem—they’re sharing their floor plan with something ancient, invisible, and deeply unfriendly.
The “Mortuary Assistant” Pedigree
The real reason we’re losing sleep over this announcement? The developer. Brian Clarke, the mastermind behind 2022’s breakout hit The Mortuary Assistant, is the one pulling the strings. And the movie adaptation of it is absolutely killing it!
Clarke has already proven he can turn a single room into a psychological pressure cooker. After his previous title was successfully adapted into a hit film for Shudder, he’s now applying that same unpredictable, atmosphere-heavy dread to the Paranormal Activity lore.
What to Expect
The scares are unscripted and change based on your actions. The signature “nothing is happening… until everything happens” pacing of the films is part of the game. High-fidelity audio and visuals that make every floorboard creak feel like a personal threat.
