Playgrounds are supposed to be for scraped knees and juice boxes. However, Tubi is about to make you rethink that weekend trip to the park. We’ve got the first look at Hive (via Bloody Disgusting). It’s an upcoming social horror thriller that proves the most terrifying monsters are the ones that can fit on a swing set.

Daylight is No Protection

Xochitl Gomez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) stars as a strict, high-strung teenager whose worst nightmare comes true: she loses the child she’s babysitting. But this isn’t a simple case of a kid hiding in a tube slide.

As she scours the idyllic playground, she realizes a sinister force is hiding in plain sight among the children. With her grip on reality slipping and the “rules” of the world unraveling around her, she has to outsmart an entity that has turned a place of innocence into a visceral hunting ground.

From Short to Feature: The Vision of Felipe Vargas

Director Felipe Vargas is officially one to watch in the horror space. Hive is an expansion of his own short film, which also starred Gomez. Forget dark basements. Vargas is targeting “daylight horror.” He’s using the bright, innocent setting of a playground to make the supernatural elements feel even more intrusive and “wrong.”

Vargas first went viral with his 2020 short Milk Teeth and is currently attached to several genre projects, including the folkloric horror The Mouth of the Furnace.

The Cast & Creative Team

Joining Gomez in this “playground from hell” is Aaron Dominguez (Only Murders in the Building). Blue Ice Pictures produces the film, the team behind a string of recent suspense hits, ensuring that the “social horror” themes hit just as hard as the scares.

Free to Stream

So, the film is set to premiere exclusively on the free streaming service Tubi on Friday, April 17. It’s bringing a whole new meaning to “supervision required.”
