It’s time to head back to Platform 9¾, but the view might look a little different this time. HBO has finally pulled back the Invisibility Cloak on its upcoming “Harry Potter” series. It has given fans a stunning first look at the new Hogwarts.
The debut image, shared via the show’s official Instagram, captures Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter from behind. He’s walking toward a sun-drenched Quidditch pitch. Clad in his scarlet and gold Gryffindor robes—complete with “POTTER” and his player number stitched on the back. He’s trailing a massive crowd of students as Gryffindor and Hufflepuff banners flutter in the distance.
A Mastermind Behind the Magic
If the scenery feels a bit more “prestige TV” and a little less “theme park,” that’s likely thanks to production designer Mara LePere-Schloop. Known for her lush, atmospheric work on Interview With the Vampire and Pachinko, she’s tasked with reinventing the wizarding world’s most iconic silhouette for a new generation.
The New Class and Faculty
Production is currently in full swing at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, and the cast list reads like a British acting masterclass:
The Golden Trio: Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Alastair Stout (Ron), and Arabella Stanton (Hermione).
The Faculty: John Lithgow is stepping into the half-moon spectacles of Albus Dumbledore, with Janet McTeer as the formidable Minerva McGonagall.
The Dark Arts: Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) is set to bring a fresh, brooding energy to Severus Snape.
The Groundskeeper: Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) is officially our new Rubeus Hagrid.
The Creative Alchemists
This isn’t just a shot-for-shot remake of the films. Leading the charge are showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, the powerhouse duo behind Succession. With that pedigree, expect a deep, character-driven dive into J.K. Rowling’s original novels that explores the “bones” of the story like never before.
A Bit of a Wait
While we’re all eager to see if the new series lives up to the hype, it looks like we’ll have to keep our wands at the ready for a little while longer. HBO CEO Casey Bloys recently firmed up the timeline, confirming that the “Harry Potter” series is officially set to premiere in early 2027.
