Buckle up, because Lionsgate is about to drop a high-octane reminder that you should never, ever touch a martial arts master’s family. Coming to theaters this May, The Furious is a relentless revenge thriller that proves when the police are corrupt, and your daughter is missing, the only logical solution is to fight your way to the top of the food chain.
The Dynamic Duo of Destruction
The film stars Xie Miao (The New Legend of Shaolin) and Joe Taslim (Mortal Kombat, The Raid), a pairing that essentially guarantees every stunt person on set earned their hazard pay. Wang Wei (Miao), our hero, is a man on a rampage after a criminal syndicate snatches his daughter, Navin (Taslim), a relentless journalist searching for his own missing wife. Two desperate men, one massive grudge, and enough flying kicks to shift the Earth’s orbit.
Behind the Chaos
If the action looks particularly crisp, thank director Kenji Tanigaki (Enter the Fat Dragon). He’s working from a script polished by a team of genre veterans, including Mak Tin Shu (Kung Fu Jungle) and Shum Kwan Sin (Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In). The production pedigree is equally lethal, with the legendary Bill Kong (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Shan Tam (Rumble in the Bronx) on board.
The impressive cast features Yang Enyou, Brian Le, Joey Iwanaga, Sahajak Boonthanakit, Manatsanun Phanlerdwongsakul, Guo Junqing, Winai Wiangyangkung, Yayan Ruhian, and Jija Yanin.
A Global Festival Darling
Before hitting your local multiplex, The Furiousspent its time collecting gasps and applause at the world’s premiere genre festivals, including TIFF, Sitges, and Busan.
