Going to be at the Art House’s Convergence’s annual Art House Theater Day on September 24th? No? A 4K restoration of the original of Phantasm (dubbed Phantasm: Remastered) screening and a special sneak peak of Phantasm: Ravager are going down there…. How about now?
There’ll be over 185 theaters participating in this event, so this leaves no excuse for Phantasm fans to miss this! Between Phantasm: Remastered bestowing a brand new 5.1 audio soundtrack on top of receiving a 4K restoration, to Phantasm: Ravager making its first appearance in theaters nationwide starring returning (now sadly deceased) icon Angus Scrimm.
Here’s the run down: The restoration of the first film came to be after franchise fanboy JJ Abrams screened the film for his team over a Bad Robot productions. Abrams had the idea to restore the film and called in Phantasm OG director Don Coscarelli to supervise as his team over at Bad Robot remastered the 1979 classic with their state-of-the-art tools.
As for Phantasm Ravager, the film acts as both the last film in the longest running franchise without a reboot and/or remake and the last film starring the late Angus Scrimm. The sequel will mark its world premiere at this year’s South By Southwest Film Festival.
