Killer Robots, Drug Cartels, And Danny Trejo: Review Of ‘Cartel 2045’

 
Chris Le’s film Cartel 2045 takes us to the year 2045 where the drug war in Mexico has reached new heights of brutality as one of the drug cartels acquired a new weapon to strike fear in rivals and the United States, combat robots. The robots were used by the US military till an incident in Iran made them illegal. Now the company that made the robots have sold them to a Mexican drug cartel headed by Angel Malvado played by Danny Trejo (Machete, Machete Kills).
 

 
Former Marine Carson Wright, played by Brad Schmidt (The Birth of a Nation, Here and Now, House of Lies) who was responsible for the incident in Iran due to a “faulty” chip that’s implanted in his head that allowed him to control combat droids, is sent to Juarez, Mexico to meet up with a special forces team sent in to rescue an engineer played by Chris Perskey (Bagboy, Hot Bot, Artifice) who’s being held by Trejo.
 

 
I found the film quite entertaining but for such an enjoyable film it’s a shame it just ends so abruptly, literally the action is cut short with no conclusion leaving parts of the plot with unfilled holes. Honestly, this is probably the only terrible thing about this film, such a build up just to stop suddenly without fully completing almost giving it the appearance that most of the back story was forgotten.
 

 
The film was engaging overall, the CGI effects were a bit flawed but easily forgivable. The acting was decent from all actors. But the story could have used some tweaking with some more character development. I have to state the obvious of why I liked this film, Danny Trejo, for a film about drug cartels with killer robots; Trejo was a good choice to play the villain. My score out of five stars, it’s a 3 1/2. Keep an eye out for this film will hit shelves on May 1st!
