Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’s André Øvredel is set to direct the New Line’s film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk, Deadline reports.
Originally published back in 1979 under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, the tale is set in the dystopian future where 100 teenage boys embark on a competition annually known as “The Long Walk”. They must maintain a speed of over four miles an hour or die. If they receive more than three warnings they die. But the last one standing is set for life.
James Vanderbilt, who penned the script, will be producing alongside Bradley Fischer and William Sherak.
Øvredal also directed the fantastically frightening supernatural film The Autopsy of Jane Doe and the upcoming film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, co-written and produced by Guillermo del Toro, which arrive in theaters on August 9 from CBS Films.
