David, a film archivist has been having a tough time lately. David has been going through old reels of crime scene footage at work and stumbled across a video of a crime scene in his new home. To top everything off, David suspects his wife (Alice) may be having an affair. David soon begins hearing voices and seeing shadow figures around him. When Alice disappears David’s world descends into chaos and now his son is in serious danger.
The Canal was written and directed by Ivan Kavanagh and stars ‘Hellboy’ actor Rupert Evans as the main character, David. This supernatural tale also stars Hannah HoekstraAnit (APP) as David’s wife Alice. Campbell-Hughes (Albert Nobbs) as David’s coworker. Many other fine actors are listed as cast members.
I have to say, I really didn’t expect much from ‘The Canal’, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. Rupert Evans did a great job in is role as David. He really sales the panicked state of his character. All the actors did a great job, though Kelly Byme, who plays Sophie, was lacking conviction in her role as the nanny. The special effects are were well balanced with the suspense that drives the paranormal film. The plot was fresh and interesting. All in all I would recommend ‘The Canal’ to those who are a fan of paranormal movies.
‘The Canal’ is out on DVD and is now available on Netflix Streaming.
