The mockumentary ‘What We Do In the Shadows’ follows a group of vampire flat mates through their night to night lives, their partying, hunting, the drama, issues with a werewolf pack, zombies and dating. Jemaine Clement plays the role of Vladislav, the Romeo of the bunch. Ben Fransham’s character Petyr is the oldest of the group, he’s the hungry silent type. The hot-headed vampire, Deacon, is played by Jonathan Brough. Viago, the vampire that serves as the glue that keeps the group together, as well as making sure everything is taken care of, is played by (writer/director) Taika Waititi. The wild card and new vampire, Nick (Jonathan Brough) seems to be the source of most of the groups troubles. Let’s not forget Stu, the only still living human of the bunch, played by Stuart Rutherford.
The writing/directing team of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi have created a hilarious horror-comedy, with the makings of a cult classic. ‘What We Do In the Shadows’ is a load of campy fun. These are one group of vampires I would love to hang out with. The cinematography and effects were a perfect fit for the movie and all of the cast did a great job with all their roles. There are so many things I could say about this movie, but “Freaking Fantastic” and “Funny as Hell” pretty much covers it all. This is one horror-comedy you definitely have to see!
‘What We Do In The Shadows’ is now available on VOD and will be out on DVD on May 19.
