There’s one thing we as Netflix subscribers will never get used to, the fact that it will cancel a series in the blink of an eye, even when it is getting rave reviews. Their latest victim, the sci-fi horror series “Archive 81.”
The series, which premiered back in January and quickly took its place on the service’s Top 10. Despite all of the buzz it received and all the love from viewers, Netflix has sadly decided not to move forward with a second season, leaving many people (including me) disappointed. Reportedly, the network was not satisfied with its numbers,

The series, which is based on the podcast of the same name, featured eight episodes executive produced by horror heavy hitter James Wan. “Stranger Things” director Rebecca Thomas directed half of the season. Marc Sollinger and Daniel Powell created the podcast and co-produced the series adaptation.
In the series, we called “a must-see” in our review, “archivist Dan Turner (Athie) takes a mysterious job restoring a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994, he finds himself reconstructing the work of documentary filmmaker Melody Pendras (Shihabi) and her investigation into a dangerous cult. As Dan is drawn into Melody’s story, he becomes convinced he can save her from the terrifying end she met 25 years ago.”
“Archive 81” stars Underwater‘s Mamoudou Athie with “Altered Carbon” actress Dina Shihabi, Martin Donovan (Big Little Lies), Matt McGorry (How To Get Away With Murder), Julia Chan (Katy Keene), Evan Jonigkeit, and Hidden Figure‘s Ariana Neal.
