Screamfest Horror Film Festival Announces 2020 Dates

Screamfest Horror Film Festival is always a blast, and we at Horror Fuel are excited to see what the fest has planned for this year. Following is the fest’s first official announcement about the scheduled dates for 2020. WHAT: The 20th annual Screamfest Horror Film Festival will take place October 6-15, 2020. Screamfest is the largest and longest running horror film festival in the United States. Considered the “Sundance of Horror,” the festival premieres and showcases new work from American and international independent horror filmmakers. A launchpad for careers, many of the festival’s filmmakers have garnered distribution and representation, including Paranormal Activity, which was discovered and premiered at the festival in 2007. Film entries are accepted in the categories of Best Feature, Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Special Effects and Musical Score. Stockholm’s Monsters of Film Festival Serves Up Everything from Grindhouse to Gore

Stockholm’s Monsters of Film Festival, scheduled for September 14-20, has announced its fear-filled lineup, which includes opening film Psycho Goreman and closing film Uncle Peckerhead. Festival representative Jasmine says, “Blood is life! And this year we have loads of it. We need some fun in these dark times and what is better than some cathartic horror films? We will screen films in a secure environment at our regular cinemas. Welcome to this year’s greatest and bloodiest film festival. Movie Review: The Pale Door

The Pale Door is an independent, low-budget effort that strives to pull off a western/horror movie mashup successfully. Although its budgetary limitations often show seams and its western film tropes are plentiful, the film from director Aaron B. Koontz (Camera Obscura and a segment in Scare Package) is an ultimately fun effort boasting impressive practical makeup effects and an intriguing cast. In the old west, Duncan and his younger brother Jake witness their parents murdered during a raid on their ranch. Duncan (Zachary Knighton) grows up to be a member of the Dalton Gang, and Jake (Devin Druid) leads an honest life sweeping saloon floors in an attempt to save up enough money to buy back the land on which they lived as children. Movie Review: “The Silencing”

Director Robin Pront’s serial killer thriller The Silencing is chock full of genre-film tropes and red herrings, but solid performances and crisp cinematography help raise the film to the level of being a perfectly serviceable thriller. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones; Headhunters) stars as Rayburn, an alcoholic former hunter who has transformed his old hunting grounds into a wildlife sanctuary. He is emotionally haunted by the disappearance of his daughter five years earlier. He sees someone heavily disguised on one of his trail cams hunting down a frightened, bleeding young woman and goes in pursuit. The other main character is Sheriff Alice Gustafson, played by Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle; Peaky Blinders). “Rock, Paper and Scissors” and “Two Heads Creek” Among Sixteenth Fantaspoa Awards

The 2020 online version of Fantaspoa Awards have been announced, and the dysfunctional families of the Argentinian chiller Rock, Paper and Scissors and the Australian horror comedy Two Heads Creek are two of the films capturing Best Feature prizes. Following is the official press release listing all of the winners. The sixteenth edition of Fantaspoa was a landmark moment for the long-running genre festival. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, South America’s largest genre film festival marked its first-ever online edition, with free access to all festival content in Brazil. In total, 138 films were exhibited: 49 features and 89 shorts from over 40 countries. The massive virtual event took place from July 24th until August 2nd on the Brazilian streaming platform, Darfklix, and the festival presented two masterclasses along with 21 Q&A’s with filmmakers from around the globe.
