Neill Blomkamp Secretly Made A Supernatural Horror Film Titled ‘Demonic’

Neill Blomkamp, the filmmaker behind District 9, Chappie, and Elysium secretly filmed, Demonic, a supernatural horror film last summer in British Columbia. Now, it’s heading to the upcoming European Film Market to hopefully find distribution. ScreenDaily quotes AGC head, Stuart Ford, as saying “Typically for Neill’s films it has a highly original visual component as well as some great scares.” The film, whose cast and details are still being kept hush, hush is being described as having “a strong sci-fi and VFX component,” and is the movie the director has always wanted to make. The Unnamed Footage Festival Announces 24-hour Webathon 4th Edition

Found-footage horror movie fans need to mark March 26th on their calendars because that is the date that San Francisco’s Unnamed Footage Festival will hold a live, one-time-only, day-long marathon of features and shorts, as well as Q&As with filmmakers and industry professionals. All the details follow in the fest’s official press release. Since 2018, the Unnamed Footage Festival has brought a unique and often obscure selection of found footage horror, first-person POV cinema, and faux documentary to San Francisco, with previous festivals being hosted at the historic Balboa Theatre, the Roxie Theater, and ATA. Strange times call for strange measures, and like so many other events, the fourth edition of the annual film festival is moving to a virtual landscape in the form of a 24-hour long webathon. “The Blare Rabbit Project,” a Found-Footage Film That Really Was Thought Lost, Debuts at MidWest WeirdFest

Many found footage films assert to be discovered after a certain amount of time, but The Revenant director Kerry Prior’s The Blare Rabbit Project can actually lay claim to having been rediscovered after being shot in 1999 and then considered lost. George James Fraser’s ‘Scaring Sheri’, Part Of ‘United States Of Horror’ Series, Is Awesome AF

George James Fraser, the director behind Happenstance and Gore Theater is back with his short film Scaring Sheri, the first installment of the upcoming horror collection United States of Horror, featuring a massive fifty films from all over the US. Shot at the world-famous Haunted Overload in Lee, New Hampshire, Scaring Sheri stars Sheri Lee (Doll House) and Johnny J. Gordon who is making his film debut. Scaring Sheri plays out against an absolutely amazing backdrop featuring hundreds of lit pumpkins and monsters making it spooky AF and adding to the tension because you’re on guard not knowing when or where a scare is going to come from. The cinematography for the eight-minute, fifteen-second long film is fantastic. With a rich look, a nice pace, and good effects, watching Scaring Sheri was a pleasure. RLJE Acquires ‘Prisoners Of Ghostland’ Starring Nicolas Cage

RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, has acquired the US rights to the action-adventure film Prisoners of Ghostland, starring Nicolas Cage (Mandy), ahead of its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Directed by the acclaimed Japanese director, Sion Sono (Why Don’t You Play in Hell), the film was written by Aaron Hendry and Rexa Sixo Safai (Western Wonderland). Cage stars alongside Sofia Boutella (The Mummy), Nick Cassavetes (Face/Off), Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Franchise, interview), Tak Sakaguchi (Tokyo Tribe), and Yuzuka Nakaya (The Forest of Love).
