Horror Western ‘Organ Trail’ Is Heading Your Way (Trailer)

Saddle up; the brutal, horror western Organ Trail is locked and loaded and headed your way on Digital this May. ‘Nefarious’ Star Jordan Belfi Discusses The Film In Our Interview

The horror-thriller Nefarious is getting rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, including from us. After watching it, I made it my mission to talk with both of the film’s stars, Sean Patrick Flanery and Jordan Belfi, who plays the role of Dr. James Martin, the psychiatrist responsible for deciding if the demon Nefarious truly possesses Flanery’s character Edward or if it’s a clever ruse. In the film, “On the day of his scheduled execution, a convicted serial killer (Flanery) gets a last-minute, court-ordered psychiatric evaluation. The killer astonishes visiting psychiatrist Dr. James Martin (Belfi) by insisting that instead of trying to avoid his execution, he is, in fact, a demon—Nefarious—who wants his execution to go forward. During my interview with Belfi, who you’ll recognize as a series regular on “Entourage,” we talked about some of the dark subjects in the film, including the death penalty and abortion, as well as the emotional challenges of making a film like this.

The Bigfoot Trap The Bigfoot Trap (U.S., 2023) is not another movie about Sasquatch running rampant on misbehaving city folk — far from it, although we do get a nice variation on that type of person here. Josh MacMahon (Tyler Weisenauer) has set aside his goal of becoming a reporter of depth for some quick cash being a content provider for a clickbait-style website hungry for views. After a video of him making fun of a flat-Earth believer goes viral, Josh gets an assignment of doing another such video about Red Wilson (Zach Lazar Hoffman), the head of the Southern Sasquatch Research Foundation — the membership of which seems to be two people. At first trying to get yucks at Red’s expense, Josh begins to buy into the earnestness with which Red seeks to prove that Bigfoot actually exists. When a possible visual sighting of the legendary cryptid goes tragically awry, The Bigfoot Trap ratchets up its drama and suspense.

A Woman Fights To Survive This May In ‘Distress Signals’

This May, a woman is desperate and injured in the survival thriller Distress Signals, written, directed, and produced by Terence Krey and Christine Nyland. In the film, “When a fall down a steep rock face separates her from her friends, Caroline finds herself stranded. Now, alone and with a dislocated shoulder, she must make her way out of the woods–and contend with how she got there.” In 2020, as the world ground to a halt, we – like everyone else – found ourselves canceling our plans. In our case, that meant shelving the film we’d intended to make that summer, even though we were more restless than ever. Desperate for something to hang on to as the world turned upside down, we briefly considered making a screen movie, but far too much of our lives had already transitioned to zoom, so our conversations turned toward isolation and depression – and the antidotes we craved. We wanted to do something together.

Spoiler-Free Reviews: MONOLITH and ACCUSED (Overlook Film Festival)

Monolith Australian science fiction/mystery Monolith finds a young reporter (Lily Sullivan) trying to revive her career as a journalist after not checking her sources on a controversial article. She has an opportunity to start a podcast but suffers from creative block — until, that is, she receives an email from an anonymous source that hints at a particular woman and a brick. The podcaster follows up on the mysterious message and finds herself going further and further down a rabbit hole, and revealing any more of the plot would be doing director Matt Vesely’s film a great disservice. Vesely, working from a marvelous screenplay by Lucy Campbell, masterfully builds the intensity, with Sullivan giving a first-rate performance. Sullivan is, with soem small exception, the only actor viewers see — other performers provide solid voice acting — and she carries the film wonderfully. Shudder Announces Premiere Of Survival Thriller ‘Quicksand’

Shudder has just announced the June premiere date for the film Quicksand, directed by Andrés Beltrán (Malyerba) and written by Matt Pitts (“Westworld”). The English-language film shot entirely in Bogota, Colombia, follows an American couple on the brink of divorce who travels to Colombia for a work conference. While hiking through the rainforest, a storm causes them to become trapped in a pit of quicksand. Unable to move, it becomes a struggle for survival as they battle the elements of the jungle and a venomous snake in order to escape. Carolina Gaitán (Encanto, “Narcos”) and Allan Hawco (Jack Ryan, Republic of Doyle) star.
