The Final Girls Berlin Film Festival hosts a bevy of superb fright fare for its 7th edition, which runs February 3-6, 2022 on the big screen and in person, with a worldwide online presentation of most of its scheduled short films. In addition to its slate of 7 fine feature films, the fest also has 8 blocks of shorts — Social Ills, Wrath, Medical Horror, Envy, Queer Horror, Midnight, Gluttony, and Menacing Presences — on tap, along with a variety of talks and workshops. Surviving high school takes on a whole new meaning in writer-director Lee Ann Kurr‘s slasher Student Body. In the new trailer, we see friends fight to survive the night. Shhh! John Krasinski Officially Starts Production on ‘A Quiet Place Part III’

‘Pig’ Filmmaker Set To Direct New ‘Quiet Place’ Spin-Off

Michael Sarnoski, who was behind last year’s Pig starring Nicolas Cage, has signed on to direct the next installment of John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place franchise. A sequel to the franchise is in the works but this particular film is being described as a “spin-off.” Deadline is reporting that the new film will “set up a potential Quiet Place universe that the studio can build on for years to come.” At this time it is unknown if Krasinski, Emily Blunt, or the other stars of the franchise will star. Krasinski will be producing the film alongside Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form.

Netflix Movie Review: The Wasteland (AKA El Paramo)

A desolate landscape stretches for miles surrounding a 19th-century home of a poor family, in The Wasteland. A mother (Inma Cuesta) spends her days teaching her son (Asier Flores) how to plant a garden, how to play games, and songs as his emotionally unavailable father (Roberto Alamo) tends to the more gruesome acts of making sure his family is fed with no help because the mother does not want her son’s innocence corrupted. As the three sit by a fire, the father tells his son of a legend, of “the beast” that killed the boy’s aunt. A tall entity with hallow eyes that comes for those that are weak, those who have fear. In other words, it’s his way of telling his son to man up. When the father must leave on a mission, his wife and son are left behind to fend for themselves. Hale stars as Elly, “a young botanist on a research mission gone awry. After witnessing a drug mule’s plane crash in the Borrego desert, she is kidnapped and forced on a dangerous journey to a remote drop-off point. With limited essentials and alone in the desert with her captor, desperation for survival takes hold as Elly risks her life to escape from his clutches before the trip turns deadly.” In the trailer we see Elly trapped in the middle of a drug deal gone wrong.
