This June, sink your teeth into The Carnivores, an LGBTQ horror comedy starring Lindsay Burdge (The Invitation, Netflix’ Easy), Tallie Medel (Joy Kevin), and Aiden the dog as Harvie. Writer-director Caleb Johnson‘s film centers on Alice and Bre whose dog “Harvie is dying, and he’s ruining everything. What had been a bright little family is quickly being consumed by clouds of self-doubt, suspicion, and a disturbing amount of ground beef. Bret (Lindsay Burdge) is taking the news hard. She’s had Harvie since before the relationship and is startled to find just how much of her sense of self is wrapped up in her history with him. Alice (Tallie Medel) thus finds herself on the outside of a relationship looking in. Bret’s obsession with the dog is getting overtly unhealthy, yet the more Alice attempts to connect, the further Bret retreats.” As the stress on Alice, a vegan, manifests in increasingly strange ways involving sleepwalking and a fascination with meat, she

Why? that’s the new film from director Corbin Timbrook. I’ve got some thoughts, so bear with me as I try my best to express them properly in this review. Starring Natasha Henstridge (Species), Emma Bell (“The Walking Dead”), and genre staple Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Why? could best be described as a slasher. The story centers on a writer who takes off to a rental cabin, where she will stay until her boyfriend arrives a few days later not knowing she is being stalked by a killer. Where to start? You could say that some of the acting was decent (sometimes). But that’s about as far as the compliments are going to go in this review. Sorry. Here’s my problem with Why?, the entire time I was watching this movie I kept feeling like I have seen it before, then I realized, I had, sort of. If you took scenes and troupes from the main slashers, the classics, reshot them, and

Chino Moya makes his directorial debut with Undergods, an anthology with a unique style of its own, is out this May from Gravitas Ventures. The official synopsis goes like this, “in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world, K and Z roam the streets on the lookout for corpses and something even more valuable – fresh meat.” Several families linked by common elements. Undergods is laid out as stories told either by the two men or a father weaving a tale for his daughter at bedtime. While we learn much about the families, we only get glimpses into the post-apocalyptic world which I wish we would have learned more about. The bleak film is about family more than anything but not as you would expect. Most of the families are in turmoil and have elements of oppression, depression, and infidelity. Each segment comes off a bit strange, slow, and we are given no reason to feel empathy for the characters, they’re just unlikeable,

Murder, suspicion, and a missing police officer fuel Sven Bohse‘s (“Ku’damm 56”) true-crime miniseries “Dark Woods“. Written by Stefan Kolditz, the story is set “in the summer of 1989, Barbara Neder, the sister of high-ranking Hamburg police officer Thomas Bethge, disappears from her home without a trace. Shortly before this, two couples had been cruelly murdered in nearby woodlands. Suspicion quickly falls on artist Hans Lingner, who is living on the edge of the forest and is a gun enthusiast. Instead, the police begin to suspect Barbara’s husband Robert who was in the process of divorcing his wife.
