Late last night at The Overlook Film Festival, following the premiere of Stephanie, Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman announced their next project, their fifth together, which will be a remake of Stephen King’s Firestarter. Goldsman will direct and co-write the script with Scott Teems for Universal.
The 1984 original film, directed by Mark L. Lester, tells the story of a couple who participated in a medical experiment and gain telekinetic abilities. The couple, played by David Keith and Heather Locklear, give birth to a daughter (Drew Barrymore) with strong pyrokinetic abilities. After the mother’s death the girl and her father are forced to flee from those who want to harness her power.
