2013’s genre hit The Conjuring not only laid a path for it’s sequel, which is now in theaters nationwide, it also gave life to a spin-off. Annabelle introduced us to the haunted doll that in real life came into the possession of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the main characters of both The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, and real life paranormal investigators. While The Conjuring 2 continues to wow at the box office, the sequel to Annabelle is already entering production.
David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) will be directing Annabelle 2 and, he already seems very excited about the film. Sandberg even called the sequel “The Godfather II of creepy doll movies,” while speaking to Bloody-Disgusting.
I don’t think I can give too many details at this point but it’s not a continuation of the first film,” Sandberg stated. “That’s one of the many things that enticed me with the project, that it’s a new story. Also the setting and the time period of this one is perfect for a horror movie. The script is really good and I think that this is a sequel that will actually be better than the original.”
I can’t help but wonder if Annabelle 2 is a prequel. Well, hopefully we will know more soon. The Conjuring 2 is now in theaters. Earlier today we revealed that its spin-off is already in the works as well.
Annabelle centers on a couple, and a doll who seems move on her own. As the movie goes on the paranormal activity grows, putting the couple, their child and others in danger. Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Tony Amendola and Alfe Woodard, starred in Annabelle, directed by John R. Leonetti.
