Universal’s new shared universe and the remaking of its classic monster films are officially underway. Their current project is the remake of The Mummy, which is currently filming. We get our first official look at the cast in Namibia, Africa via a tweet from actress Annabelle Wallis.
Wallis (Annabelle) stars alongside Tom Cruise (Jack Reacher, Mission Impossible), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (American Crime Story), and Russell Crowe (Gladiator) as Dr. Jekyll.

Though safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennium and terrors that defy human comprehension.

Alex Kurtzman is directing The Mummy, penned by Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts. Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. Sean Daniel will produce with Bobby Cohen serving as executive producer.
The original 1932 black and white film starred Boris Karloff and was directed by Karl Fraud. Other Universal horror classics to join the shared universe include The Wolf Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man and Van Helsing, which will be rebooted next. The Mummy is set to premiere in theaters on June 9, 2017.
