We reported last week that Annabelle 2 , the sequel to 2013 horror hit Annabelle, had entered preproduction. David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) will be directing Annabelle 2, and he already seems very excited about the project. Sandberg and even called the sequel “The Godfather II of creepy doll movies.”
Today, news comes that Lord of the Rings actress Miranda Otto is the first to join the film’s cast and will play the wife of a dollmaker. Her character has been described as “a disfigured recluse”. Otto will star long side Stephanie Sigman (Narcos, Spectre), who has been cast as the nun, Sister Charlotte.
Otto and Sigman’s casting is not the only Annabelle 2 news today. The sequel’s plot was also revealed, and we were right, it is a prequel.
Synopsis:
Annabelle 2 tells of a dollmaker and his wife who, 20 years after the tragic death of their daughter, welcome a nun and the girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home. Soon, the nun and the girls become the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.
The first film, a spin-off of The Conjuring, centers on a couple, and a doll who seems move on her own. As the movie goes on the paranormal activity grows, putting the couple, their child and others in danger. Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Tony Amendola and Alfe Woodard, star in Annabelle, directed by John R. Leonetti.
Annabelle 2 is set to begin filming this July in Los Angeles and will land in theaters on May 19th, 2017. James Wan and Peter Safran will produce.
