This past February Josh Boone (X-Men: The New Mutants) put his remake of Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’ on hold to move forward with another story by King, ‘Revival’. New Line’s Michael De Luca (Fright Night 2011) will produce.
‘Revival’, published in 2014, “ follows a preacher who loses his faith when his wife and child are killed in an accident. He soon becomes obsessed in his experimentation into the healing power of electrical current, positioning him to act as God-like faith healer. Intertwined with the preacher is a young man with demons of his own, who has benefited from the preacher’s talents and becomes a reluctant accomplice to his deadly obsession.”
Boone recently told Creative Screenwriting that actor Russell Crowe will play the lead in ‘Revival’. Crowe’s most recent role was that of Dr. Henry Jekyll in Universal’s reboot of ‘The Mummy‘, starring opposite Tom Cruise.
“I have a good relationship with Stephen King, so when I wanted to adapt his novel ‘Revival’ I really just went and asked him,” he told the site. “I was able to write it in a very pleasant bubble and we attached Russell Crowe.”
Charles Jacob, who Crowe will be playing, has been described as one of King’s most interesting characters. He’s a small-town preacher. After the death of his wife and child he begins to experiment with supernatural forces using electricity.
‘Revival’ will enter production after Boone wraps on ‘X-Men: The New Mutants’, which is said to have a Stephen King feel to it.
