Universal’ s new shared universe is beginning to take shape. The next film in the universe is their reboot of The Mummy. Deadline has reported that Oscar Award winner Russell Crowe is now in negotiations to join the cast alongside Tom Cruise, Peaky Blinders actress Annabelle Wallis, and Sofia Boutella who will be playing the first lead female mummy. Crowe is in talks to play “a Jekyll-like role”.
Alex Kurtzman is in the director’s chair for The Mummy, which as already began filming and is set to premiere in theaters June 9, 2017.
Remakes of The Wolf Man, Van Helsing, The Bride of Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Invisible Man, starring Johnny Depp, are also in the works for the new universe. So far, it seems like Universal is pulling out all the stops to make the films as impressive as possible, including signing big name casts for each film.
