We have been closely monitoring the evolution of STARZ’s series adaption of Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods. Today we can report that comedian/actor Dane Cook has joined the cast of the series. Cook will play the role of Robbie, the best friend of the series’ main character, Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle). Robbie promises to keep Shadow Moon’s job for him while he’s in prison. Robbie’s wife, Laura is played by Emily Browning.

Executive producer and co-writer Brian Fuller co-wrote the script for American Gods with Michael Green. The two are also working as co-showrunners. David Slade will be in the director’s chair for several episodes, including the pilot.

American Gods centers on the battle brewing between the Old Gods and the New Gods. The Old Gods are rooted in mythology and the religions of days gone by. The New Gods have found their footing thanks to people’s obsession with money, technology, celebrities, and drugs.
