There is currently a remake of the 1990’s supernatural thriller Flatliners in the works, according to THR. Niels Arden Oplev (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) is set to direct the film that will be penned by Ben Ripley. Elysium actor Diego Page is currently in negotiations to star opposite Ellen Page.
The original Flatliners was directed by Joel Schumacher and starred Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Oliver Platt and William Baldwin.
In the film four medical students set out to conduct an experimenter to discover what comes after death. Each student takes their turn having their heart stopped in an attempt to discover what lies beyond before being revived. During the experiment each person is haunted by traumatic events from their pasts, but when they return to life the lines between life and the afterlife are blurred.
Many horror fans have expressed that they have grown tired of remakes/reboots and I agree. Some critics may welcome a new version of Flatliners, but I am not one of them. I think the film is great just the way it is.
