Brightburn’s Timothy Williams Talks Music, Superheroes, And Much More In An Interview

While a film’s soundtrack may not be at the forefront of films, it should be. Music is the heartbeat of a film, controlling pace and emotion. Timothy Williams, a composer, has created many of those melodies heard in films such as Get Out, IT, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Deadpool 2. I sat down with Williams to talk about one of his most recent projects, creating the scores for James Gunn’s new film Brightburn, part superhero movie, part horror film. In the film, a couple (Elizabeth Banks and David Denman) adopt a baby from another world. They raise the boy (Jackson A. Dunn) to use his powers for good, but evil begins to grow within him. Written by James Gunn and Mark Gunn, Brightburn takes over theaters on May 24, 2019, from Sony Pictures. Horror Fuel: “You’ve worked on so many amazing projects, do you have a favorite so far?” Tim Williams: “That’s a difficult question because I’ve enjoyed working

The Newton Brothers Discuss Netflix’s ‘The Haunting Of Hill House’ In An Interview

Andy Grush and Taylor Newton Stewart Netflix new series “The Haunting of Hill House” is set to premiere on October 12th. Ahead of the premiere, I sat down with The Newton Brothers, the duo responsible for the haunting scores that bring the series’ haunting atmosphere to life. Andy Grush and Taylor Newton Stewart (aka The Newton Brothers) are very distinguished composers working on films such as Gerald’s Game, Open Water 3: Cage Dive, Ouija: Origins of Evil, Before I Wake, Hush, and Oculus. Horror Fuel: “How did you get into composing for films and series?” Taylor: “I started writing music for shorts back in high school for college students. That led me to assist for other composers, I worked for Hans Zimmer for a bit and several different composers. I did what I had to do, make copies, get coffee, record stuff, help write stuff. It just led from one thing to another. That’s how Andy and I met in

Horror Composer, Daniel Licht Passes Away

The musical vein of the horror world has lost a great composer. Daniel Licht (60) has passed away due to cancer. While Licht is most known for scoring the music for ‘Dexter’, he has been working steadily on film and TV, and video game music scores since the early ‘90s. Growing up in Detroit, Licht first found a love of jazz music and focused a great deal of time on the guitar. He received a composition degree in New Hampshire and travelled around Europe writing music and developing his craft. After moving to L.A., Licht was noticed by Clive Barker (of Hellraiser fame) and the two worked together on a number of projects. Licht was fond of using odd items in his music – especially for ‘Dexter’ – such as surgical tools, saws, bones and whatever else created his unique macabre sound. You will be missed.

An Interview With Film And TV Composer And Musician Charlie Clouser

One of the most important parts of a film is its score and soundtrack. Even if you don’t realize it, the music is there to guide you through the movie and influence your mood, the setting, and the tone of the movie. Recently, I had the opportunity to interview a fantastic composer, musician, and Grammy nominee Charlie Clouser who has composed a long list of scores for television, film, and games including for the ‘Saw’ franchise, ‘Wayward Pines’, and the iconic opening score of ‘American Horror Story’. You may recognize Clouser for his work as a musician. He was one of the founding members of Nine Inch Nails. Clouser still works in the music industry today, creating remixes for musicians like Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie’s band White Zombie. Horror Fuel: “You have been involved with various roles in the music industry for a while. How old were you when you began playing music and what was your first instrument?”
