Director Confirms ‘Maniac Cop’ Remake Still Happening

It will be a completely different thing tonally,” Hyams told the show. “I think that’s why I was hired. I think the reason why Nick was interested in me was because he saw what I had done with Universal Soldier, in the sense that I took it and made it my own and went completely off the reservation with it. Nick Refn loves exploitation cinema as much as the next guy, but he also is not interested in paying homage to things. He loves Maniac Cop, he loves the idea of it, he loves everything it represents, but he has no intention of making a tribute story.” We’ve spent the last

‘Maniac Cop’ Is Going To Stalk The Streets Again – A New Reboot Is Coming

Last year we told you that a remake of Maniac Cop was on it’s way. After a long delay, it is finally entering production. The film will be a modern adaption of William Lustig’s 1988 genre classic, with Nicolas Winding Refn (The Neon Demon) and Lene Børglum (The Neon Demon) producing. John Hyams (Z Nation, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning) will be directing from the script penned by Ed Brubaker (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and Refn, Variety reports. Set in the present day, Maniac Cop follows a L.A. police officer who is determined to reveal the truth about the brutal murders of innocent people by one of her fellow cops. Unlike the original, the reboot of the film will not be pure horror, but more of a “contemporary action thriller”, which will make it very different from the original. In the 1988 version, an ex police officer is killing people on the streets. Jack Forest (Bruce Campbell) finds himself
