Occult Horror ‘The Wretched’ To Be Unleashed By IFC Midnight

Following its world premiere at the Fantasia film festival, IFC Midnight has acquired the North American rights to The Wretched, Deadline is reporting. The occult horror film from writer-directors Brett and Drew Pierce (Deadheads) follows a defiant teenage boy, struggling with his parent’s imminent divorce, who faces off with a thousand-year-old witch, who is living beneath the skin of the woman next door. Starring John-Paul Howard (“Hell or High Water”), Piper Curda (I Didn’t Do It), Azie Tesfai (“Supergirl”), and Kevin Bigley (Netflix’s “Upload”) the film has been described as “a dead serious new spin on witchcraft cinema, with a fresh set of rules, likeable and developed teen characters, a ton of surprising scares, and a cauldron of imaginatively gruesome special makeup effects.” The Wretched is set to be released in 2020. Caught in a waking nightmare, Sarah must find the strength to hold onto her crumbling sanity…or be trapped forever in an existential hell.” Horror films don’t come more instantly identifiable than 1BR… Marmor’s smart script and solid cast make 1BR one of Fantasia 2019’s top discoveries.
