On Valentine’s Day Blumhouse’s Happy Death Day 2U was released, while it didn’t take box offices by storm, it turned out to be a decent flick. It has now been announced that a third installment is on its way. No details have been revealed but we have to assume that the three stars of both the first film and the sequel, Jessica Rothe, Isreal Broussard, and Phi Vu, will be returning. Happy Death Day follows Tree (Rothe) as she wakes up time after time in Carter (Broussard) and Ryan’s (Phan) dorm room after living the same day until she uncovers who her killer is. In Happy Death Day 2 U all three of the friends are trapped in a Ground Hog’s Day style loop after Ryan’s machine triggers a loop. Last we saw the machine it had been confiscated by the government. I’m guessing this time the loop will be bigger. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime check out

Last year’s Happy Death Day was hit with genre fans bringing in $100 million at box offices with a $4.8 million budget, so it’s no surprise that there’s a sequel in the works. Star Jessica Rothe has hinted that there may be a Back to the Future style feel to the sequel. The sequel, the way he described it to me, elevates the movie from being a horror movie – and I wouldn’t even say it’s just a horror movie because it’s a horror, comedy, rom-com drama – into a Back to the Future type of genre film where the sequel joins us right from where we left off, it explains a lot of things in the first one that didn’t get explained, and it elevates everything,” Rothe told Collider. “I was really pleased to know that we weren’t just gonna be pushing all the buttons that people loved the first time, over and over again, ‘cause I think that

Blumhouse, behind films like Get Out and Split, presents Happy Death Day from director Christopher Landon. The trailer is here and it has a serious Groundhog Day feel, but with a lot more death. Starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Rachel Matthews, Jason Bayle, and Charles Aitken, the film was co-written by Landon and Scott Lobdell. In the film, a college student (Rothe) relives the day of her murder with both its unexceptional details and terrifying end until she can discover her masked killer’s identity. It’s only fitting that Happy Death Day is set to be released on Friday the 13th this October from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.
