Free Horror App ‘Slasher’ Celebrates Its One Year Anniversary

On May 31, 2020, Slasher, the free, independently-created social app, designed to bring the horror community closer together, will celebrate its first year online. To commemorate the anniversary, Damon has shared the story of how Slasher came to be, as well as some of his experiences over the past year. In May of 2019, the first version of Slasher was released to the public, on iOS and Android in the U.S. and Canada, with little fanfare. Originally designed as an experiment, it began to catch on. It wasn’t until the subsequent release of 2.0 that it found an extremely passionate and loyal base of horror fans and professionals, many of whom often share stories of how Slasher made a difference in their lives. With a very lofty goal of giving everyone in the horror community a chance to connect with one another, from fans to professionals, creator Damon Della Greca has been working tirelessly to deliver. Now, celebrities, producers, directors,

Horror Fuel Invades Days Of The Dead Atlanta

The Days of the Dead’s Atlanta convention has come and gone. This past weekend Horror Fuel invaded Days of the Dead Atlanta. We had a ball meeting actors like Malcolm McDowell (Halloween), Ray Wise (Jeepers Creepers 2), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th, Hatchet), Bill Moseley (Devil’s Rejects), Matthew Lillard (Scream), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), Chosen Jacobs (IT 2017), Jeremy Ray Taylor (IT 2017), and Alex Vincent (Child’s Play), just to name a few. Of course, there were several actresses there as well, including Traci Lords (Cry-Baby) and Eileen Dietz (The Exorcist). Every time I go to DOTDAtl (this was my third year) it never fails, there are amazing artists selling their wares. So many paintings, prints, dolls, masks, jewelry, and a lot of clothing to check out. I picked up a few items myself, including a fantastic print by artist Doug Hoppes (the one over his right shoulder) and a signed horror-themed children’s book for my nephew, Scout, by Candy and

Is ‘The Dark Tower’ Really That Bad?

No, it’s not…..but probably only if you already know the source material. The Dark Tower might seriously be the only movie I ever thought was actually too short. I really do enjoy a concise piece of cinema; Lord of the Rings withstanding, a pretty standard mistake in films, both masterpieces and massacred pieces, is a run time that’s just too long. The infamous bar scene in Inglorious Basterds, the highway opening of Manos: Hands of Fate, pretty much the entirety of The Room; many films, hits and shits alike, often could use a little more time in the cutting room, whether it be the result of overindulgent directors or expensive set pieces the studio doesn’t want to go to waste. However this is not so in The Dark Tower, which is without a doubt one of the most hopelessly confusing films in modern memory. Guess it wasn’t the greatest idea to condense seven novels into 95 minutes (and thats including

Is ‘The Mummy’ As Bad As Everyone Says?

Yes. Yes it is. ………But I think its worth watching anyway, as a lesson in how not to make a horror movie, if nothing else. Studio horror rightfully gets a lot of shit, and The Mummy might just be the perfect example of a production studio that doesn’t have a fucking clue what horror fans want. But what this disaster-piece really does is show how little faith studios have in horror at all. Despite films like The Conjuring grossing over $300 Million dollars, film producers still don’t believe horror has the drawing power that more traditional Blockbuster and action films do. So rather than anything close to a horror movie, The Mummy is instead a big budget Tom Cruise action film, the start of a cinematic universe no less (on a related note, has anyone outside of Marvel even come close to a halfway watchable cinematic universe?) Never mind the fact that the mummy is a monster with literally thousands

‘Death Pool’ Dives onto DVD and VOD June 20th

Those who like a little murder with their sun and fun having something to look forward to on June 20th with the release of Death Pool. While I’m not sure if hot young Pool Cleaners exist outside of porno’s, Death Pool turns one into a killer with its main man Johnny Taylor (god that’s a great name for a killer.) I’m not sold yet on a Slasher based around drowning (the gore hound in me needs some blood to wet my appetite), but Death Pool doesn’t look half bad. There’s a fine line between goofy and scary with films like this though, so we’ll just have to wait until the 20th to see whether Death Pool will make a splash or sink to the bottom.
