2018 was a sad year for horror video games. Many games that were scheduled to be released were pushed back to the upcoming year while some that were supposed to start going into development in ’18 simply never happened. Even some titles that were released slipped through the cracks without even drawing attention, but like most crappy things in life, there’s a silver lining, in this case, five of them. Without further ado and in no particular order, here are my Top 5 Horror Games Of 2018. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One) This dark fantasy by Ninja Theory has won over 20 awards and enchanted fans with a fusion world of Norse and Celtic cultures. The story follows a Pict warrior woman named Senua as she journeys through the Norse underworld Helheim to rescue her lover who was sacrificed by the Norsemen. The most prominent plot device that helps make this game a success is the fact

The final chapter to “The Walking Dead” game series by Telltale Games will be coming August 10th where choices made by players will determine how the story’s main protagonist, Clementine’s chapter in “The Walking Dead” universe will end. Over time, fans of the game series watched, Clementine’s story evolve where she has become the symbol of what’s left of innocence in a world gone to hell, and watched her grow from a little girl who needed protection to a young woman who does the protecting. In the final chapter, Clementine takes on the role of a mother figure to AJ, a young boy that fell into her care in a previous chapter, a role that hauntingly resembles the father/daughter relationship she had with Lee in the first chapter in the series. Clementine will face the undead as well and living foes, all the while trying to protect Aj and others will her story end like how it started? This is

“Remothered: Tormented Fathers”, a survival horror video game that’s a throwback to classic interactive entertainment titles that define the genre. With the impending console release less than 24 hours away (July 25, 2018) the game and its hardworking developers received some (well deserved) recognition and praise from a legend in the horror gaming field. Chris Darril, creative director of “Remothered: Tormented Fathers” received a tweet from Keiichiro Toyama who praised the game. Toyama is the creator of critically acclaimed gaming horror phenomenon “Silent Hill”. To put it in perspective to some, this is the equivalent of Leonardo da Vinci saying the sketch you just drew was amazing, Dave Grohl liking a melody you were humming, or Alfred Hitchcock praising your two-minute long film project. Not only did Toyama praise the game, he even expressed interest in doing a project together with Darril someday which a big deal is since Toyama’s past works “Silent Hill” and “Siren” helped inspired “Remothered: Tormented

The South Korean zombie film Train to Busan, which took moviegoers on a thrilling ride in 2016, may take fans love for the film to new terrifying heights as its being reported that the film will be adapted into a video game. Train to Busan, or as I call it, “World War Z done right.”, follows a fund manager and his daughter as they’re caught up in a zombie outbreak in Korea, their only refuge is the train they and others are riding on but soon the virus breaks out on the train. It’s being said that a division of the film’s distributor, Next Entertainment World, has signed Singaporean visual effects company Vividthree Productions to adapt the film into a video game. It’s unknown at this time what platform the game will be on and when or if the game will go into production. Time will tell but one thing is for certain, fans will be waiting at the station

Back in August of 2014 players on PlayStation 4 got the chance to play the first ever playable trailer that was known simply as P.T., a first-person horror game like no other. The game ends revealing that this playable trailer was for (at the time) the upcoming game Silent Hills a new installment in the game series, sadly production of the game was canceled. Along with the cancelation came the removal of P.T. from PlayStation Store rendering already downloaded copies of the game unplayable, a move that’s still heavily criticized. Some can argue that P.T. was not the first game to dome something like this, the no combat, first-person horror experience. It’s true, four years prior to P.T. gamers were scared by Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a survival horror game where players explore a dark castle while trying to avoid the creatures that stalk its corridors with no means to protect themselves. A month after Amnesia was released; Alien: Isolation
