Murderous Creature On The Loose In Argentina?

Residents in Sante Fe, Argentina are on edge after a mysterious half-man half-wolf creature killed a Pitbull and a German Sheppard. The creature had its picture taken while it was leaving the scene. This is where things get weird…well more suspicious. After lurking around the dark web all signs seemed to point to a youtube channel called UFOMania. Before I decided to become a writer, I went to school studying Animal Management, learn about animals, the science behind studying them, and Animal Husbandry (taking care of them in a zoological setting), so my interest perked and I wanted to take a closer look at this “creature”. From looking at its limbs, head shape, and posture, I began to think that this creature looked like a hairless emaciated bear which would explain why it would attack two dogs. Most bear species, contrary to popular belief, are omnivores (eat both plants and meat) with the only true carnivore bear species being the

Move Over Scarecrows, ‘Super Monster Wolf’ Is Coming!

Japanese farmers may soon be able to buy or rent a robot that will defend their rice and chestnut crops from wild boars. Meet “super monster wolf” a robotic wolf with fangs and glowing red eyes, yes they glow! The bot was deployed on a trial basis last July near the Kisarazu City and passed with flying colors moving the robotic wolf to go into production. The robot is low maintenance and is powered by solar charged batteries. The animatronic wolf is motion activated when an animal gets within its range the eyes light up and the wolf moves and plays an assortment of wolf sounds, this was designed so wildlife won’t get used to just one sound rending the deterring robot useless. Once the robots are complete, farmers can buy one for $4,840 or the can rent one for $114 a month. Who knows, if the success of the wolf ends up becoming revolutionary, we might see these robotic

Legend Meets Real Life: The Kappa Of Kyuushuu And Kappa-dera

WARNING: Some subject matter may be disturbing to some readers. The Kappa is an adorable turtle-like creature with a Moe Howard haircut, big teddybear eyes, and rosy cheeks that make it just so darn cute that you want to pick it up and hug the daylights out of the little critter! This is all in part thanks to animes like Youkai Watch, How to raise a Kappa, and Summer days with Coo as well as little trinkets you can get from a vending machine. In reality, the Kappa is a creature of Japanese folklore that needs to be feared, why? Well for starters they can literally suck the life out of you…by way of your butt. The Kappa whose name in Japanese means “Water Child” is probably one of the most recognizable Yōkai (Japanese mythological creatures), a nymph/goblin-like creature who can be found in rivers and that’s said to be no bigger than a child but have tremendous strength. Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Christina Ricci

Welcome back, my Little Monsters! This week it’s Woman Crush Wednesday in more ways than one. It not only refers to the day of the week, but arguably this wonderful Woman of Horror’s most famous character – Wednesday Addams. That’s right it’s the spooky, tiny, lovely and talented Christina Ricci. Christina is the baby of the family, being the fourth out of four children born to Sara Murdoch and Ralph Ricci. You could say she’s a California girl, having been born in Santa Monica. But Christina actually grew up in Montclair, New Jersey, where she attended Edgemont Elementary School, Glenfield Middle School, Montclair High School, as well as the Morristown-Beard School and then the Children’s Professional School in New York City. Christina was discovered by a critic from a Bergen County paper, The Record, at the age of eight years old, while performing in a school production of The Twelve Days of Christmas at Edgemont Elementary. She wasn’t originally cast

Aileen Wuornos: The True Story Of A Serial Killer

Monsters do exist. They are not the nightmares in our dreams, the ghouls under our beds, or the specters in our closets. Monsters are real people, and they are terrifying. One monster who lived on the earth is none other than Aileen Wuornos. Yes, I know that this monster prologue is based on the fact that there is a movie about her called Monster (and the movie if fantastic!), but the fact still remains that she was a vile, angry woman. As with many murderers and monsters, the argument is there for if they were born evil or created evil by their circumstances. And, if created, how justified were they? I am not going or answer that question. But I hope to at least provide the information for you to create opinions and arguments. Wuornos never met her father, as he was incarcerated at the time of her birth on February 9, 1956. He was convicted of sex crimes against

Critical Thinking

Actress and well known horror star, Caroline Williams tweeted an article this morning that dovetailed with several previous Cynema posts. Director Brett Ratner called out the dangers of aggregate film score sites like Rotten Tomatoes or the similar Metacritic in an article that devolves into a promo for his upcoming films. Frankenstein is Not My Name

At my day job, I dress up in a shirt, tie and polished shoes. I am not a shirt, tie and polished shoes kind of guy. Therefore, I have found fun little ways to break out of the tie-noose, things like various colors of shoelaces and funky belt buckles. No, I’m no Wolowitz, but I am happy with my little collection. Among my favorite are a couple of different skull buckles, Freddy Krueger’s claw and the head of Frankenstein’s monster. I know, by now you are asking “what’s the point?” But here it is. In my opinion, in the monster world there are the big four: Dracula, Wolfman, The Mummy, and Frankenstein’s Monster. I do believe that there are very close second tier villains like Kruger, Voorhees, Ghost Face, Swamp Thing, and then spirals down into an infinite number of characters, but I want to focus on the Big Four. Here’s the point: The monster has no name? Yes, people

Road to Death House Part 4: Open Letter

Friday. November 11th. Death House is officially done. Like the 2016 election, it will soon be in the hands of the people to make their decision. Hear my personal views on this film at 22:30 here on Postmortem Radio just published Nov. 8, 2016: HERE https://www.horrorphilia.com/postmortem-radio-episode-016-inside-death-house-wdirector-harrison-smith/ It’s been a long road. Gunnar Hansen, who created the project, is not here to see it emerge from the post production studio. We wrapped principal photography May 5th. Six months later we have a finished film. it is true…making a movie is akin to a minor miracle. Making one with the largest collection of horror names in a single picture, to date…that’s something else. This is a personal entry from me on this film. From its director and its writer. It’s not a pitch. Those who want to see it will see it. Those who don’t will likely see it anyway. Many will love it. Some won’t. It’s the way it goes anytime

Todd Douglas Miller’s documentary “Dinosaur 13”

If this past year at the box office has taught us anything, it is that dinosaurs STILL rule the earth! One could say that dinosaurs are Earth’s first REAL monsters…. “Carnosaur,” “Dinosaur Hell,” “Dinosaur Island,” “Dinosaur Lake,” “Extinction,” are just a few of the horror films that come to mind when I think of these prehistoric beasts… and of course there is the “Jurassic Park,” but a new documentary on Netflix shows you the nightmare one paleontologist, Peter Larson, and his team went through after discovering the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil in history. The film documents the past 25 years of Larson’s life fighting with local land owners and the United States Government. Larson ends up fighting for the fossil’s freedom and his own. The documentary has a great juxtaposition about it, which really helps tell a sad story and makes you feel for not only the paleontologist, but also for the fossil, Sue. Todd Douglas Miller’s “Dinosaur

A Whole New Thing: When a Remake Isn’t a Remake

It’s Not A Remake The Thing, 2011, is NOT a remake. It is a prequel. I just did more than the entire Universal Studios marketing department with that clarification. John Carpenter got royally screwed on his 1982 masterpiece. Some call The Thing his greatest film. Others, like me, call it one of the greatest films ever made for any genre. Carpenter’s film was buried in 1982 by a candy pilfering alien and Spielberg. Between a lackluster marketing campaign by Universal Studios and America’s pop sugar desire for heart glowing aliens, The Thing, 1982, never really had a chance. Carpenter himself saw the handwriting on the wall after exiting a plane to giant advertisements for ET: The Extraterrestrial. “We’re done,” he lamented. However home video and cable gave his film a new life, and eventually the tortoise caught up and passed the alien. Today, Carpenter’s film is regarded as timeless and as mentioned, by many, his best. The film is deserving
