Movie Review: Hellboy (2019)

I’ll be honest, as I sat down to watch Neil Marshall’s Hellboy last night, all of the negative feedback I have heard over the past few months had me expecting a complete failure of a film. Luckily, that’s not what I experienced. In fact, I found it the complete opposite. While the rest of the franchise looks bright and elegant, this movie is more gritty, darker. And to be honest, I like that. We are talking about a big red demon here. In the movie we find Hellboy fighting everything from humans to witches to big boars. There’s nearly non-stop action, but that’s not the main point of the movie in my opinion. Hellboy is struggling with identity, his purpose in life. His struggle mirrors the duality of man, part good, part evil, part man, part beast, a struggle that’s been the foundation of many epic films and stories for centuries. While it’s obvious Hellboy was created for evil, to

David Harbour Explains How Hellboy Is Different From The Original

When the new Hellboy movie was first announced I was a bit disappointed to hear that Ron Perlman would not be reprising his role as Hellboy. But when it was revealed that “Stranger Things” star David Harbour had been cast as the star, my curiosity was peaked. This time Guillermo del Toro is not involved. Neil Marshall is directing Hellboy, which has scored a hard “R” rating for violence. You may be wondering what makes Harbour’s Hellboy different from the original. During a recent interview with Empire, Harbour explained how his version of the character is different. We’ve also got a new poster (below). [Perlman] does something quite extraordinary in those [Hellboy] films [directed by del Toro] that is very specific to him, and I did not want to imitate that in any way. In our movie Hellboy’s younger. He’s rougher. He’s much more of a teenager. He’s really struggling with the idea of whether or not he’s a good

David Harbour Looks Savage AF In The New Image From ‘Hellboy’

The first official image has arrived of David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy from Neil Marshall’s new film and he looks savage af. Color us impressed. Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, and Daniel Dae Kim round out the main cast in the film about Hellboy caught between two worlds, the human and the supernatural. Hellboy will have to battle an ancient sorceress hell-bent on destroying mankind in this R-rated film. The film is based on the comic series created by Mike Mignola, who wrote the script with Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden. Hellboy will arrive in theaters on January 11, 2019, the same release date as Lionsgate’s crime thriller Kin.
