Movie Review: Seance

Simon Barrett takes us to haunted boarding school in his new horror film Seance. As usual with horror movies, there are only three ways it can go, bad, meh, and awesome. Luckily, I can now tell you that Seance is the latter of the three. First off, Seance doesn’t waste any time getting right into the spooky stuff, with a group of girls staring into the bathroom mirror, calling on the legendary school ghost, after learning it’s a prank all hell breaks loose and one girl is dead. When the new girl shows up, played by Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch, Assassination Nation), everything begins to unravel as the girls continue turning up dead. The question is, is it or ghost killing off the girls or is it something/someone more alive? Don’t worry, I’m not going to spoil it for you. I wouldn’t do that to you. Seance is a movie you’re actually going to want to watch for yourself.

Suki Waterhouse Enrolls In A Haunted Boarding School In ‘Seance’

Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch, Assassination Nation) is set to star as the protagonist in Simon Barrett‘s horror directorial debut, Seance, EW reports. “Seance is a murder mystery set at a girls boarding school where a young woman recently died,” says Simon Barrett. “Our hero moves into her dorm room, which is believed to be haunted, and sets about trying to find out what happened.” “She was the first person who signed on,” Barrett states. “I was looking at Suki originally to play Alice — the bully, the leader of the girls at the school. I thought of Camille as an underdog. Suki is a model, she has such a striking look, I was not certain how that would work. Then I sat down and talked with her for like three hours, and she had an interesting take on Camille and totally got the jokes in the film. She honestly was the only person who thought the script was funny.

Massive gratitude to our amazing cast and crew for making it happen. Can’t wait for you all to see this one when it’s done.” Barrett continues: “This is the only image from our shoot that I’ll post (taken by our great still photographer Eric Zachanowich) because it reveals nothing and I don’t want people to be sick of our film before it comes out, and I asked everyone to do the same. Adam Wingard’s The Woods Is Actually A Blair Witch Sequel !

One of the biggest stories to come out of this weekend’s San Diego Comic Con is that Lionsgate has pulled a fast one, sneaky bastards. Adam Wingard’s The Woods is actually a sequel to Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez’s 1999’s hit The Blair Witch Project. Back in April we reported that another sequel was in the works, but last night news came that the sequel has been here all long, under the title The Woods, and it has a new name, Blair Witch. I have no idea how they kept this quiet for so long (3 years). But with such a great director and a list of heavy hitters producing, we knew the film was going to big from the start. Adam Wingard has a list of great films on his resume, including You’re Next, The Guest, and V/H/S and V/H/S 2. Blair Witch was penned by Simon Barrett, Wingard’s long time collaborator. Those “heavy hitters” I was referring to,
