Ryan Gosling May Be The Next ‘Wolfman’

Months following Univeral’s success with The Invisible Man, the studio is moving forward with Wolfman as the next movie in their monster universe. The werewolf film will star Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049), but there is no concrete word if he will play the titular role. According to Variety, Universal has been meeting with several potential directors including Cory Finley (Bad Education). Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Orange Is the New Black”) wrote the script based on the pitch by Gosling. The original Wolfman was released back in 1941 and starred Claude Rains and Lon Chaney Jr. It follows a man as he returns to his homeland and is attacked by a creature of folklore and infected with a horrific disease that transforms him into a wolfman. Universal’s original vision for the monster universe would have included a shared universe filled with the studio’s original monsters that included the Invisible Man, Wolfman, Dracula, along with others. Universal Sending ‘The Invisible Man’ And ‘The Hunt’ To VOD Early

Theaters across the world are shutting down to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. So what happens to the movies that should be playing? Universal is moving some of their new releases to VOD. Deadline is reporting that Leigh Whannell‘s brilliant hit The Invisible Man (review) and Craig Zobel‘s controversial film The Hunt, both from Blumhouse, will arrive on VOD Friday, March 20th. The Invisible Man has already had a successful run at the box office bringing in over $120 million, but The Hunt‘s release came when people were already avoiding public gatherings, so it didn’t make much a splash. Hopefully, the VOD release will help it to rebound. The movies will be available “on-demand 48-hour rental at the suggested price of $19.99.” Odds are we will see a lot more studios follow in Universal’s footsteps and send their new films straight to VOD. The situation isn’t all bad for us though, we get to watch these great films

Movie Review: ‘The Invisible Man’

I’ve had high expectations for The Invisible Man since day one. And as I sat in the theater this weekend hearing the audience’s screams around me, it became clear that this brilliant film from writer-director Leigh Whannell is without a doubt making the top of our “Best of 2020” list. Not many movies can make me jump these days, but The Invisible Man had me curled up in my seat holding onto my man’s arm with a death grip. Is it scary? Hell yes! But that’s not all the movie is about. At the heart of the story is Cecilia (Elizabeth Moss), a woman fighting to break free from her psychotic, abusive boyfriend, Adrian (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) who has the means to make her life a living hell. He’s created a suit that turns you invisible and he uses it to alienate her and torture her every way he can. But what he’s not counting on is Cecilia finding the strength

‘Invisible Man’ Director Leigh Whannell Signs Deal With Blumhouse

If you’re a true horror fan then you will recognize the name of Leigh Whannell, the writer-director-actor who co-created the Saw franchise, the Insidious franchise and the films Cooties, Upgrade, and most recently directed The Invisible Man. Whannell has just signed an over deal with Blumhouse for the next two years projects, some films, some series. The deal will require Whannell to write, direct, and produce, Deadline is reporting. Jason Blum, Blumhouse CEO and founder, praised Whannell. “Leigh creates movies which not only build franchises but fundamentally change the landscape of their genre. After he and James Wan made Saw, it launched dozens of copycats. Their work with Blumhouse on Insidious founded not just a franchise but dozens of classical proscenium PG-13 supernatural horror films. I have no doubt that will be true for The Invisible Man and for anything else he wants to create. I just want to be there with him when he does!” Whannell had this to
