Blumhouse’s Jason Blum Makes Headlines Over Remark Just Before Halloween Debuts

Only days before Halloween‘s arrival in theaters producer Jason Blum‘s name is making headlines and not in a good way. During an interview with Matt Patches of Polygon asked the head of Blumhouse about one flaw in the genre powerhouse’s eleven years, why Blumhouse has never released a film with a female director. Jason Blum’s response has left some critics and fans in shock and a bit ticked off. We’re always trying to do that. We’re not trying to do it because of recent events. There are not a lot of female directors period and even less who are inclined to do horror. I’m a massive admirer of Jennifer Kent [director of The Babadook]. I’ve offered her every movie we’ve had available. She’s turned me down every time.” Blum also stated that he had spoken with Honeymoon director Leigh Janiak but was unable to get her due to her involvement with the upcoming reboot of The Craft. Reportedly she was

The Soska Sisters Give Insight Into Their Remake Of Rabid

Back in February of last year we reported that the Soska sisters, Jen and Sylvia, will be directing the remake of David Cronenberg’s 1977 film Rabid. There hasn’t been any news since, until now. The writing-directing sister team, also known as the “Twisted Twins”, let a lit info slip about their approach to the making the film while talking to The Horror Channel. We are very honored to have been the team chosen to take on the remake of Cronenberg’s Rabid. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of remakes but that’s if they don’t have anything new to bring to the story. We have a unique perspective just because of who we are to tell the story from Rose’s eyes as well as make a commentary on the increasingly rabid world that we live in. Also, we’ve been dying to get back into body horror. Ten years into David’s filmmaking career, he remade The Fly and it brought him to

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Katharine Isabelle

Welcome back, my Little Monsters. It’s Wednesday again, and of course you all know what that means. It’s time to shine a spotlight on another one of our wonderful Women of Horror. Who’s today’s talented lady? You’ve already read it in the title, but just for the hell of it, I’ll type it again. Today’s talented lady is Katharine Isabelle (flutters eyelashes and swoons). Ms. Isabelle, born Katharine Isobel Murray, hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In 1989, an 8-year-old Katie Murray kicked off her acting career, appearing in five movies (one made-for-TV) and an episode of MacGyver. In 1991, she began going by the name Katharine Isabelle, thus edging much closer towards her current moniker. Her journey towards the macabre began with roles on television shows like Ray Bradbury Theater, Goosebumps, and The X-Files. She would make her first film appearance in the horror genre, as Lindsay Clark in the 1998 film, Disturbing Behavior. And while this role did

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Jen and Sylvia, The Soska Sisters

As we all know, my Little Monsters, February only has 28 days or 29 when we happen to be in a leap year. And while Women in Horror Month officially ended yesterday, I’m going to buck the trend and add one more day…Just because I feel like it. Frankly I believe that the talented women in horror, or women in general for that matter, should be recognized and celebrated EVERY day of every month. So without further ado, lets get this show on the road. The horror genre got it’s hooks into Jen and Sylvia at a very young age, and the movie responsible – Poltergeist. The precocious pair would also tear through Stephen King novels as quickly as they could get their eager little hands on them. And much like the rest of us genre fans, in the heyday of VHS and video stores, the impressionable pair would take pleasure in perusing the horror section of their local video
