Women In Horror Month: Cassandra Peterson, Elvira ‘Mistress Of The Dark’

Late one night when I was twelve and up past curfew, I was channel surfing when I found reruns of this cheesy horror movie (I was already a horror addict by that point), suddenly this divine creature in a skin tight black dress came across the screen, Elvira, I was fascinated. Over the years my girl crush on Elvira never faded, after all she is the “Mistress Of The Dark”. Elvira brought the greatness out of bad horror movies with her one of a kind narration. Everyone knows the name Elvira and between her show, her movies, her photos in magazines, you’ve had to see her at some point. The lady is hard miss. Her larger than life personality, her outrageous sense of humor and great looks have made her a legend. How much do you know about the women behind the spunky character? Elvira’s real name is Cassandra Peterson. Cassandra was born in Manhattan, Kansas and raised in Colorado

This month is ‘Women In Horror Month’ . Everyday this month we are shinning a spotlight on a woman who has made an impact on the world of horror. Today we take a look at the talented, beautiful and badass Nicole Alonso, an actress, producer, singer, songwriter and model. This woman can do it all. “Women In Horror Month” Spotlight: The Soska Sisters

Jen and Sylvia Soska are the two hottest women in horror. The duo are making big waves in the horror world. The lovey ladies have acted in, written and directed several great projects . ‘See No Evil 2’ and ‘The ABC’s Of Death 2’ are just two of their latest films. 2012’s ‘American Mary’ is my personal favorite. The identical twins fell in love with horror at an early age. They both decided to go into the film industry as actresses but wanted more. The twisted twins decided to make a movie. They invested their own money and made ‘Dead Hooker In A Trunk’ with the help of Robert Rodriguez’s book ‘Rebel Without A Crew’. The movie was released in 2009 . Since then, the Soska sisters have been a force to be reckoned with. Jen and Sylvia are not just filmmakers. They are both outspoken when it come to equal rights for everyone, they’re animal lovers and amazing women.

‘Women In Horror Month’ Spotlight: Linda Blair

Many of you recognize the name Linda Blair because of her role in the 1973 horror classic ‘The Exorcist’. No one can deny that, even as such a young girl, Linda Blair played the role of the decade. I still can’t watch ‘The Exorcist’ alone at night. That movie is so intense and brilliant and her role as Regan was just incredible. Though Mrs. Blair has had a long history in film and been in many movies, 71 of them to be exact, her role as Regan will forever give her a place in the horror history. Mrs. Blair is still involved in entertainment, but her heart is in her charity ‘Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation’. Mrs. Blair actively speaks out on animal welfare as well as actively helping to find the dogs a forever home, which makes me respect her even more. Linda Blair we salute you ! ‘The Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation’ https://www.lindablairworldheart.org/

Today, February 2, 2015, we honor an original ‘Scream Queen’ Jamie Lee Curtis. Even though Jamie Lee Curtis made her first appearance in the TV show ‘The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries’ in 1977 her first outstanding role was in ‘Halloween’ in 1978. Curtis was cast as Laurie Strode, the younger sister of notorious slasher Michael Myers. In 1980 Curtis stared as ‘Elizabeth Solley’ in ‘The Fog. That same year Curtis went on to play the role of Kim in ‘Prom Night’, but she always returned to ‘Halloween’. Curtis returned as Laurie Strode in the 1981 ‘Halloween II’ and again in 1982 for ‘Halloween III’ and yet again in 1998 for ‘Halloween H2O’. Curtis’ last role as Laurie Strode came in 2002 in ‘Halloween: Resurrection’, proving
