Video Game Review: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

“V has come to” is how the game begins. Such a simple phrase and yet has so much behind it. Minutes after “V has come to” the game ascends and shows us what we have in store. Big Boss, our main protagonist awakens from a 9 year coma in a hospital in Cyprus missing an arm and having a large chunk of shrapnel lodged in his head, Big Boss’ awakening is only cut short when the hospital is invaded by a covert military force dubbed “XOF” on the hunt to kill him. With the help of a mysterious man named “Ishmal” Big Boss is able to escape a narrow death. Soon later the halls of the hospital begin to fill with smoke and fire when suddenly a man covered in head to toe in fire arrives in the hospital and begins searching for Big Boss. The Man on Fire has Big Boss in his clutches until the “XOF” force returns

The Escapist “The Walking Dead” game available now

A little while back a small indie game called “The Escapists” was released onto next-gen consoles and PC and was a pretty big success. The game was a “Shawshank Redemption”-esque game, where you played a character trying to escape from a prison. Well now the developers of the game Team 17 have now taken their gameplay and 8 bit pixel style graphics and mixed it with “The Walking Dead”. The game places you in control of Rick Grimes and has you creating safe escape routes to help and secure survivors from large areas. You have to fend off zombies and rescue as many survivors as you can. The unique aspect of the game though is how it takes most of its source material not from the TV show but from the comics, so you’ll see some very similar locations as well as new places not yet seen in the show. “The Escapist: The Walking Dead” is avalible now on Xbox

Video Game Review: The Metro Series

First Person Shooters, We’ve all heard of them, we all know what they are and they currently dominate the video game spectrum. Ranging from generic war shooters like “Call of Duty” and “Battlefield” to all out insane shoot fests like “Doom” and “Unreal Tournament”. Very few first person shooters are actually able to break the norm and be something unique of their own. They’re one in a generation really like “Half Life 2” or “Fallout 3” or the game that I’m going to talk about, The “Metro” series. The “Metro” series consist of two games, “Metro 2033” and “Metro: Last Light”. They’re based off of Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels “Metro 2033” and “Metro 2034”. In respect to the source material, the games are spot on with a little bit of exposition missing it is later on filled in the game’s sequel. Without giving away any spoilers here is a quick introduction on the story of the “Metro” series. It all begins

“Zombi” available right now on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC

“Zombi-U” was a rogue like survival horror game that had you surviving in a zombie apocalypse in London, England. The twist though was that there was nothing special about your character, every time you died you would not re-spawn but become a brand new character and with your new character you would have to trek back to where you last died, kill the now zombified character you just were, collect your things and continue on surviving in the zombie apocalypse. Whether or not there was an actual story to it I’m unsure of but I will get to that later. “Zombie-U” was released exclusively as a Wii-U launch title until now where Ubisoft has released a port of the game to Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC and has aptly named it “Zombi”. It is available now for $19.99 and includes ungraded graphics and a brand new overhaul for new-gen and PC players. I actually own the Wii-U version of

Video Game Review: Wolfenstein: The Old Blood

“Wolfenstein: The Old Blood” is a stand alone prequel to 2014’s “Wolfenstein: The New Order”. Set in 1946 it features our main protagonist BJ Blazkowics (the shirtless man pictured above) sent undercover into Castle Wolfenstein in order to steal an important file that holds top secret information containing the whereabouts of the evil leader of the Nazi army General Deathshead who’s technical advances are destroying the Allied forces. Finding this file is the miracle the Allies need in order to turn the tide and hope to defeat the Nazis once and for all and it’s all up to BJ and you but of course soon after you infiltrate Castle Wolfenstein everything goes awry and the mission that ensues is fantastic! For those who are unfamiliar with the “Wolfenstein” franchise, It’s considered the king of first person shooters and is always allotted as being the actual very first FPS to ever be made. The story and concept itself are very straight

Video Game Review: Telltale’s The Walking Dead: Season 2

After weeks of delay I was finally able to finish Telltale’s second season of their award winning “The Walking Dead” series and after years of avoiding spoilers I was able to see if this game was up to par or better than it’s predecessor and well long story short; it’s good but not as good. Season 2 picks up a couple of months after the events of Season 1 and through a series of unfortunate events Clementine, the young girl we had to take care of in the 1st season is now older, mature and most importantly exposed to the horrors of living in a zombie apocalypse. She ends up with a new group of survivors with a shady past and together embark on a trip to head north and hope that the winter is too much for the dead. Story wise Season 2 is very strong with plenty of twists and difficult decisions unfortunately most of these choices and

Video Game Review: Telltale’s The Walking Dead

With Comic-Con wrapping up and AMC’s “The Walking Dead” 6th season revealed I decided to take a look back at Telltale’s game adaptation of “The Walking Dead”. This game was released back in 2012 and won Spike’s Video Game of the Year award for which it got a lot of backlash for mainly because it came out of no where and was competing against a lot of other and better games I.E Darksiders 2 and Dishonored. I personally was upset that this won because from a gameplay stand point and I would go on to be-grudge this game until I eventually picked it up and now playing through it for a second time I can now understand why this would win Game of the Year. As you can see graphically wise, it ditches the ultra-realism that most games aim for and instead uses cel-shading. I personally enjoy cell-shaded games, some of my favorite games of all time are cell-shaded but

“Shadow of Evil” is the newest chapter in Call of Duty Zombies series

Light your cigars and load up your Tommy guns because the newest “Call of Duty:Zombies” mode was revealed yesterday at San Diego Comic-con and will put players into the 1940s and will star Heather Graham, Robert Picardo, Neal McDonough, Ron Pearlman and Mr. Brundlefly himself Jeff Goldblum. The gameplay itself still looks like it will retain the classic “Zombies” mode that fans come to love and instead of using a transit system like in “Black Ops 2” will instead put players into a huge open world just like the last two DLCs for “Black Ops 2”. Where it gets interesting are the 3 things that appear in the trailer; Firstly we see a magically gumball machine that dispenses gumballs for your character to chew on, depending on which one you get it seems can alter game play in both small and large scales, I saw one person get a full ammo reload dropped right in front of them, I saw

New Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 “Juggernog” Edition annouced

Look at that bad boy! “Call of Duty: Black ops 3” will be releasing this November and the one thing has got most people exciting (especially me!) is the latest in Treyarch’s long line of Zombie modes, starting back in 2008’s “Call of Duty: World At War” “Zombies” as the game mode has been dubbed started out as just putting 4 players in an enclosed area and had the surviving for as long as they could against an endless onslaught of zombies, thanks to it’s fun gameplay and creativity to the mode, “Zombies” became a main-stay and with every installment to the “Call of Duty” franchise developer studio “Treyarch” would come with “Zombie” mode. “Zombies” became so popular in the “Call of Duty” franchise that players demanded that they put it into last year’s “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” and Treyarch didn’t even develop it! Seeing its popularity Activision, the publisher of the “Call of Duty” franchise decided to capitalize

Telltale announces new Walking Dead game titled “Michonne”

“The Walking Dead” is back and it’s not the long awaited Sixth season but a return to the video game media. Just announced today slightly under the radar, Telltale will be developing part mini series titled “Michonne” where you play as the katana wielding, zombie chaining and eye stabbing (wink-wink) Michonne. According to Telltale’s blog the story will take place in the comic book continuity between issues #129 and #139. It will inform players of how Michonne left the group and her return back so if you’re a fan of the comics you are in for some lovey back story. “The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale mini series” is scheduled to release this fall on PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and all compatible iOS and Android based devices. Now personally I’ve played the first “The Walking Dead” game from 2012, it won Game of the Year that year and although I think it didn’t deserve
