The ‘Insidious’ franchise, which began in 2010, will soon add another film to its collection, ‘Insidious: Chapter 4’. Writer Leigh Whannell is once again behind the screenplay. He will also be returning to his role as “Specs”. Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan) is in the director’s chair for this trip into the “Further”. Horror heavy-weights James Wan and Jason Blum will be producing.
The first still (unveiled by EW) features Lin Shaye as “Elise Rainer”, the parapsychologist featured in each of the franchise’s films. She is joined in the image by the new character Aubrey (Tessa Ferrer).
[The film] goes back to Elise’s beginnings,” Shaye recently revealed in the interview. “And you also meet Elise at a very different point in her life. It takes place right after the end of Chapter 3, when she walks off with Specs and Tucker and they’re starting their company, Spectral Sightings, and they are now living at her home. They’re like her two sons, her two bad sons.
So it starts out in a very jovial, happy place and then goes downhill from there,” she adds. “And downhill meaning uphill, though. It’s a fantastic story and it took me back into what made Elise who she is. You meet my family, my mother, my father—we go back to my hometown, which is in New Mexico. And so that’s where this takes place and her quest to find the bad guy that’s been haunting her. It’s a really wonderful story. I think the fans will really, really enjoy it. And it’s scary on levels they’re not going to expect.”
This spooky tale stars Josh Stewart, Spencer Locke, Javier Botet, Kirk Acevedo, Bruce Davison, Caitlin Gerard, Angus Sampson, Jerrika Hinton, Hana Hayes as teenage Elise and Ava Kolker as a young Elise.
In the last installment of ‘Insidious, a prequel’, we witnessed the haunting of the Lambert family. Elise (Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her gift to help a teenage girl who had become the focus of a dark entity.
‘Insidious: Chapter 4’ is set to open in theaters nationwide on October 20, 2017. We will update you when we know more.
