Mark and Debby were identified by The Sparks Police Department after the hostage situation. The situation began when Debby’s roommate came home and found their other roommate dead and Debby missing. Mark had taken Debby, his estranged wife, hostage at another apartment. The police located the couple using Debby’s cell phone. When the SWAT team approached the apartment after hearing gun shots, they knocked on the door. Mark told police “give me 15 minuets to think or I’ll kill her”. After a three hour standoff SWAT used stun grenades and entered the apartment where they found both Debby and Mark dead in a murder-suicide. Mark had recently been charged with domestic violence against his estranged wife.

Every nine minutes, a woman in America suffers from domestic violence and around the world, one in three women will face domestic violence at some point in their life, those are disturbing statistics. Domestic violence is the number one cause of injury for women, not car accidents. If you are in an abusive situation, please seek help and if you know someone being abused please reach out to them.
