Horror series are hotter than ever. Freeform (formally known as ABC Family) will soon premiere a new horror series of their own, titled Dead of Summer. The TV series is inspired by the slasher films of the 1980s, from the creators of the hit show Once Upon a Time, Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis along with writer Ian Goldberg. Production began on Dead Summer earlier this week.
Horror icon Tony Todd has now joined that cast and will star along side Jenna Berman, Amber Coney, Alberto Frezza, Eli Goree, Mark Indelicato, Elizabeth Lail, Ronan Rubinstein, Elizabeth Mitchell, Paulina Singer and Zelda Williams.
Todd, known for his deep sultry voice and great acting, has starred in such films as Candyman, The Rock, Bernard Rose’s Frankenstein, Scream at the Devil, several films in the Final Destination franchise, as well as a reoccurring role on the TV series Chuck. Todd also stars in the upcoming highly anticipated zombie film Sky Sharks.
Set in the late 1980s, school is out in Dead of Summer, and a sun-drenched season of firsts beckons the counselors at Camp Clearwater, a seemingly idyllic Midwestern summer camp, including first loves, first kisses – and first kills. Clearwater’s dark, ancient mythology awakens and what was supposed to be a summer of fun soon turns into one of unforgettable scares and evil at every turn.
